At the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Mercedes-Benz showcased its advancements in electric vehicle (EV) development and forward thinking. The company took advantage of the event to announce the launch of its global branded, high-power charging network in North America.
This charging network will debut in 2023 and will be similar to Tesla's Supercharger network, allowing Mercedes EV owners to easily charge their vehicles while on the go. The launch of this charging network demonstrates Mercedes' commitment to the EV market and its efforts to make it easier for its customers to adopt electric transportation.
Mercedes-Benz's charging network, set to debut in North America in 2023, will be open to all EV customers, not just Mercedes owners. The rollout of the network will begin this year and will be paired with MN8 Energy and ChargePoint, which operates one of the largest networks of independently owned EV charging stations in 14 countries.
This partnership will provide a convenient and widely available charging solution for EV drivers across North America. The decision to open the network to all EV drivers, rather than just Mercedes owners, demonstrates the company's commitment to promoting the adoption of electric transportation and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The completion of Mercedes-Benz's charging network is expected by 2027 and will consist of 400 hubs with over 2,500 high-power chargers, including a significant number of 350 kW chargers. These premium charging hubs will be located near highways, central intersections, and metropolitan areas, making them easily accessible for EV drivers. For added safety, cameras will be installed at each location, and the most convenient locations will also feature nearby restaurants and restroom facilities. Standard locations will have 4 to 12 chargers, while busy junctions will have up to 30 chargers.
Mercedes-Benz owners will also receive priority, with the ability to reserve a charging spot before arrival. Overall, this charging network is expected to greatly improve the charging experience for EV drivers and make it easier for them to adopt electric transportation.
