We speculated earlier today about what Ford could have in store for the debut of the 2015 Mustang after the company made it official that the S550 platform Mustang would debut on the first Thursday December. Ford has since elaborated on their 2015 Mustang launch plans, explaining that the next generation pony car will debut on four continents including North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Ford still hasn’t explained what the debut of the 2015 Mustang will entail but the company is planning a six city debut that will include Dearborn Michigan (Detroit Metro Area), New York City, Los Angeles, Barcelona Spain, Shanghai China and Sydney Australia. The 2015 Mustang will be revealed at 12:01am on December 5th but with such a large spread of geographic locations, we have to wonder where in the world it will be 12:01am on 12-5 when the next generation Mustang is revealed. The announcement detailing the launch plans do not specify in what time zone it will be 12:01am when the Mustang debuts so if that is 12:01 in China, it would be around 11:01am in Detroit and New York. If that is 12:01 Australia time, it would be 8:01am in Detroit and New York while 12:01am Barcelona time would be 6:01pm in the Motor City and the Big Apple.
Realistically, I have to suspect that 12:01am would be either China or Sydney time as debuting one of the brand’s most important cars just after midnight in the US would seem like an odd decision since many people will be sound asleep. I understand that Ford has designed the 2015 Mustang to be a globally sold vehicle, but I cannot imagine them introducing the next generation Mustang after midnight on a Thursday in what is unquestionably the most important segment for that model.
Ford Motor Company has promised that these next 15 days leading up to the December 5th debut of the 2015 Ford Mustang will be chock full of new information including images and videos – but as is the case with the actual launch, details on these images and videos are very limited. If I had to guess, I would expect to see some super tightly cropped images of the 2015 Mustang that draws lots of attention without actually showing the car ahead of the debut.
What may be the most interesting aspect of the 2015 Ford Mustang debut is whether or not Ford will be able to keep it under wraps until December 5th. We can only assume that there will be a 2015 Mustang present at the debuts in Dearborn, LA, New York, Shanghai, Barcelona and Sydney and that means that Ford will have to ship those cars around the world ahead of the actual debut. This means that these cars will leave the safe confines of the Dearborn Development Center and pass a great many people ranging from shipping company employees to customs officials – and having just one of those many people snap a cell phone picture and post it to a social network will spoil Ford’s big surprise.
In any case, TorqueNews will continue closely covering the unveiling process of the 2015 Ford Mustang over the next 15 days with every bit of breaking news that you can ask for. Stay tuned!
