Photos show that the Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is going to have a turbocharged V-6 diesel engine – a variation of which is found in the Mercedes E350 BlueTEC. According to Aaron Gold, new cars guide at About.Com, it produces 241 hp and 429 lb-ft, paired with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive. It’s also going to feature Mercedes’ Add Blue diesel exhaust treatment.
No price or fuel economy information was available. Speculation would have the S350 BlueTEC costing around $91,000 – the current price of the Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid. Both models demonstrate Mercedes’ commitment to going green at the top of its sedan food chain. The S400 is by far the most fuel efficient vehicle in the S class with a combined rating of 21 mpg (vs. 18 for the S550).
This will be Mercedes 5th BlueTEC diesel offering in the United States. Others offered here include R350 BlueTEC 4MATIC; ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC; GL350 BlueTEC 4MATIC; and the E350 BlueTEC, which is the only diesel-engine offering by Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. that is not all-wheel drive.
On Jan. 9, Mercedes will unveil its Mercedes C Class that has been redesigned for 2012. While the S class is the brand’s must luxurious sedan, the C Class is its volume leader.
