The agreement between SiriusXM, the satellite radio provider, and Nissan launches NissanConnect Services in select 2016 model year vehicles, starting with the 2016 Maxima unveiled at the New York auto show last week. The new telematics program is the first in-vehicle launch of SiriusXM's connected vehicle services and features vehicle security, vehicle health monitoring, remote access services, and more. There will be three levels of service offered to Nissan customers.
Developed by SiriusXM in conjunction with Nissan's Silicon Valley research center, the service packages start with NissanConnect Services. This base package includes emergency services contact with automatic collision notification, emergency calling, and a stolen vehicle locator. Maintenance alerts to include customized messaging and maintenance reminders are also included.
The second tier of service, NissanConnect Services Premium, adds remote services that include items like remote start, remote door lock/unlock, and monitoring alerts for children and valets such as geographic boundary alerts, curfew alerts, and valet speed or distance alerts.
The top tier of services, NissanConnect Services Premium Plus, includes the above with destination services (booking hotel rooms and the like), assisted search services, and a journey planner.
SiriusXM, through its subsidiary Sirius XM Connect Vehicle Services, provides some services to several automakers and provides many of the telematics services in Nissan's premium brand Infiniti.
