New England Motor Press Honors 2016 Mazda Miata

The New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) gathered earlier this month to honor the best of the best vehicles it tested over the past year. Mazda’s 2016 MX-5 Miata was honored as The Best Value Convertible this year. However, as Bill Griffith and Wheels TV wrote of the award, “It is really more of a lifetime achievement award.”

The 2016 Mazda Miata is a favorite of every media group. As our Miata awards compilation story explained, the Miata is perhaps the most honored of all vehicles. We frugal Yankee members of NEMPA love the Miata because it is a very affordable second car, or weekend car. That doesn’t mean we don’t drive the Miata in all conditions, as our snowstorm test of this past winter demonstrated.

One reason for the 2016 Miata's many wins could be that it fixed the worst problem of the outgoing Miata. Or it could be that the Miata is now faster than many legendary muscle cars and supercars.

Mazda had a fantastic night at the NEMPA awards ceremony. In addition to the Miata earning the award for Best Value Convertible, the Mazda CX-5 won the best Pre-owned Vehicle Award presented by Wheels TV, and the CX-3 earned NEMPA’s Best All-Weather Subcompact Crossover Award.
