How do the 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Outback, and 2023 Ascent SUV's initial quality rank with other car brands? According to the new J.D. Power 2023 Initial Quality Study (IQS), Subaru finally scores above average after being below average for quite some time. And Subaru has a new model picked among the top three vehicles in its segment.
It's a surprise because historically, Subaru has never scored well on the J.D. Power IQS scorecard. But Subaru had one model that ranked highest in the latest study. The 2023 Forester was the only Subaru model that now scores among the three best in its segment.
J.D. Power asked owners 223 questions based on nine vehicle categories, infotainment, features, controls and displays, exterior, driving assistance, interior, powertrain, seats, driving experience, and climate control.
The Subaru Forester scores a top ranking.
Subaru scored one of its models in J.D. Powers' best three models per segment. The 2023 Subaru Forester is one of the top three models in the Compact SUV segment. The Chevrolet Equinox scores number one model, followed by the GMC Terrain and the Subaru Forester and Jeep Wrangler tie for third place.
How does J.D. Power score the automaker's vehicles?
The J.D. Power IQS study only considers the first 90 days of vehicle ownership. The Power study focuses on infotainment and new technologies that new owners need to become more familiar with. The IQS is not a long-term study of quality issues with the automakers and their specific models.
Other awards for the Forester
Which compact SUVs are the most reliable and fuel-efficient? A recent Consumer Reports (by subscription) study recommends ten new models, and the 2023 Subaru Forester ranks as the most reliable and fuel-stingy new SUV you can buy this year.
Consumer Reports compiled the compact SUVs that scored well in their road tests have average-or-better predicted reliability ratings and get 28 mpg overall or better. CR says the 2023 Forester compact SUV is still the best among all compact SUVs they recommend. Subaru Forester ranks #1 of 24 Compact SUVs.
Consumer Reports says the 2023 Subaru Forester is the best in class in the compact SUV segment. Forester scores high in reliability and fuel efficiency and is a good value for small SUV shoppers this summer.
What is the price of the 2023 Forester?
The 2023 Forester comes in six trim levels; The Base Forester starts at $27,620, Premium ($30,620), Sport ($32,190), Limited ($34,300), Wilderness ($35,245), and Touring ($37,720). Pricing includes dealer fees ($1,225).
The latest 2023 J.D. Power IQS study reveals Subaru's above-average ranking shows improvement in the initial quality of its vehicles. Even though all Subaru vehicles improved, the 2023 Subaru Forester is now ranked among the best in the compact segment and the least problematic Subaru all-wheel-drive model for customers in the first 90 days of ownership.
