My 2024 Toyota Tundra Has 548 Miles and "It’s Garbage," Just Sitting Here In the Parking Lot It’s Rebooting, There it Goes Again, It’s Rebooting Again, I’m Trading It Off Already

Is there a problem with the 2024 Toyota Tundra? If you ask Dan, who just bought the truck, it's garbage, as he puts it: strong words from a new Tundra owner. Here's Dan's amazing story of why he's ready to trade in his Tundra, which only has 500 miles.

"I'm ready to trade in my Toyota Tundra; it's garbage."

That's what Dan says as he sits in his new 2024 Toyota Tundra pickup and waits for his wife to leave the store. I can relate to Dan; his wife likes to shop, and he likes to buy. I don't shop, and neither does Dan.

However, that's a story for another day.

Let's check in with Dan as he sits in his new Tundra pickup. Imagine buying a new 2024 Toyota Tundra pickup right before Christmas. You've been dreaming about the full-size truck for months.

You finally talked your wife into getting one, and she said yes. However, you had to promise her that you'd start going to church. She's been asking you since you got married. You make the steep concession and promise her you will.

You get on your smartphone and find the exact color, SR5 trim level, and desired features. You call the dealer, and it's available. Life is good.

You strike a good deal on the Tundra and get attractive terms and the payment you want. After driving home, it's time to load up your new truck and head to the in-laws who live in Dallas for Christmas. It is about a 200-mile drive from where you live in North Houston, which will be the perfect trip to try out your new truck.

The Tundra runs great, and when you get back home, your wife wants to go to the store and exchange a present she got from her mom. You aren't about to go into the busy clothing store after the holidays. So you sit and wait. You leave your truck idling since the temperature has dropped.

Let's pick up Dan's story.

In his video, Dan (@danh61) says that his 2024 Toyota Tundra SR5 keeps rebooting—and the truck has only been driven 500 miles. The truck is barely dirty, and it already has problems.

You can imagine his frustration.

Dan shows that his Tundra appears to be affected by an issue that causes it to continually reboot.

Here is what Dan says. "There it goes again, sitting in the parking lot."

Dan shows his Tundra with a blank touchscreen, and you can see the Toyota logo display appear, and you can hear the jingle that says it's rebooting.

Without touching the Tundra's touchscreen, the touchscreen goes dark, and then the Toyota logo comes on the display again along with the jingle.

As he sits and waits for his wife, Dan says, "There it goes again; it's just rebooting again," as the jingle plays again and the Toyota logo comes up on the touchscreen.

"It's December 27th at 2:33 pm, and the current miles are 548. Just sitting in the parking lot waiting for my wife to get out of the store," he says with frustration.

Dans says, "My 2024 Toyota Tundra is garbage. I'm trading it off already."

Is this a common issue with the 2024 Toyota Tundra?

The rebooting touchscreen and a malfunctioning backup camera appear to be a common issue on some new Toyota Tundra trucks.

Here are a few comments from Reddit users who say they are having issues with the Tundra pickup's touchscreen.

_Tigglebitties says, 2024 Platinum Tundra. More computer problems. My backup camera failed. I guarantee the dealer will tell me they cannot replicate it.

PANZERWAFFE_KAMPFER - How often does it happen? It happened 3 times within 7 months for me, but restarting the truck fixed the issue.

Another says I've only noticed a few minor quirks with my 2024 Tundra, and restarting has always fixed it, but when something dumb happens because I'm out of cell service area or something and I'm in the middle of a 150km stretch of road. I don't want to have to pull over and restart the truck lol, ugh!

Polocole420 - Mine did this last night, and I just picked it up yesterday.

FishInDaHood - 2024 SR5, I had the same happen twice within the last month. My Apple car play has also started acting up.

Klutzy_Trouble6043 - Yeah, it's happened to me like 10 times, but a simple restart fixes it. I think it's the software that sucks and glitches. I got a green screen the other day. Or the back camera would get stuck and not let me select any camera angle.

JohnBos10 - I had the same issue just a few months after I bought a new 2024. I tried all of the reset sequences, and nothing worked.

The question Tundra owners are asking: Is Toyota's reliability slipping, and what's wrong with the Toyota Tundra?

The Tundra's touchscreen seems to be an issue. When a new truck has so many computer glitches, it's frustrating for owners. Dan is ready to trade in his truck already.

However, there are more serious issues with the truck.

My recent report, which you can read here, reveals that the Toyota Tundra, starting in 2022 with the new generation trucks, is having significant engine issues.

Toyota recalled Tundra trucks from 2022 to 2023 last year to replace around 100,000 engines. Its V35A twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 is failing, and the Toyota Tundra truck's reliability is dropping like a rock.

This recall is not just a minor inconvenience but a significant disruption for Tundra owners. Read my full report here

Toyota Tundra truck owners are seething with frustration due to the pickup's persistent problems. Take Damien, for instance, who purchased a 2022 Tundra only to have the engine fail on him. His truck has depreciated by half its value, leaving him with a useless vehicle. And he's not alone. Check out Damien's harrowing experience in my report here.

Another report here says that Toyota is desperately trying to stop their brand image from taking a straight dumpster dive. Now the Tacoma Transmissions are failing.

I have a 2024 Tundra SR5 with 16,000 miles. So far it has been trouble free except for loose rear passenger door window belt molidngs, which were replaced by the dealership under warranty. I have occasionally (like twice in a year and three months) had an Android Auto hang-up, but I attribute that to the Android Auto app, not the truck.

It would obviously still be under warranty so instead of fixing it just traded it off and lose a bunch of money that's some genius logic Dan.

Lol full size truck? I know Toyota calls it that, it's barely bigger then the Tacoma lol. Once they changed the engines/body style. I stopped being interested in Tundras. It's a shame what product they put out since 2022.

This has been a common problem for many years. My 2014 started doing it multiple times a month that only had 50k miles a few years ago and continued and dealt with it. I traded it in for a 2020 last year w/54k miles & radio has rebooted twice on me which isn’t bad at all. Toyotas suck for radio’s. I pay for reliability. They will probably either reinstall the OS or swap radio under warranty. Take videos. If not repaired after 3x it’s a lemon and can get full value for truck I think
