Subaru hit a home run with the all-new next-generation 2024 Impreza hatchback. I have written before that the Impreza is Subaru's most important new vehicle launch this year. It gets a complete remodel and is getting media attention. In the Newsweek Best Vehicle Awards for this year, the Impreza beats an impressive field of small cars to take home the top trophy.
Why is the remodeled 2024 Subaru Impreza a top pick for small car shoppers?
Newsweek does not say why they picked the new Impreza compact hatchback, but I have covered the model extensively, and here's my take on the hot hatch from Subaru.
It's about the hatchback, and less is more.
Subaru of America chose to drop the Impreza sedan, which was a brilliant move. The Impreza now comes in only one hatchback body style. The 5-Door hatchback body style offers the utility and efficiency small car shoppers are looking for in a compact vehicle. Few buyers are looking for an outdated four-door sedan.
My take on the new Subaru Impreza
The best thing Subaru did was to drop the sedan body style. The Impreza hatchback offers utility and versatility for active lifestyles.
The all-new sixth-generation Subaru Impreza compact hatch received high-tech upgrades, new interior features, and a restyled exterior design. The Impreza hatch has improved ride quality, advanced safety technology, and comfortable seats that could be game-changers.
Improved safety technology and headlights
When Subaru dropped the 5-speed manual gearbox from the entire Impreza lineup for 2024, it opened up all Impreza trims to come standard with Subaru's EyeSight suite of safety technology.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently tested the new 2024 Subaru Impreza compact hatchback. The compact hatch has improved crash protection according to the recent scores.
The 2024 Impreza earned a good rating in the updated side test and gets the highest Top Safety Pick+ award.
The Impreza needed to have better headlights. So Subaru dropped the underperforming lights to put customers on a well-lit path. All Impreza trims come with the best LED steering responsive headlights for the first time. New LED foglights are standard on the Sport and RS trims.
A new RS trim level with a 2.5-liter engine
The most significant improvement for the 2024 Impreza lineup is the new Impreza RS trim level, which gets a new 2.5-liter engine upgrade. The RS will be the model that breathes new life into the all-wheel-drive compact car. When Subaru of America offered the 2.5-liter engine in the Crosstrek subcompact SUV, sales shot through the roof.
The new Impreza RS provides 30 additional horsepower over the Base and Sport trims, and it offers a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and SI-Drive.
What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Impreza?
The 2024 Subaru Impreza is affordable. The Base hatchback starts at $24,085, the Sport hatch starts at $26,085, and the all-new RS hatch with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine starts at $28,975. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,090).
Who makes the best small car for 2024? According to Newsweek's Best Vehicle Award, it's the all-new 2024 Subaru Impreza. It's a top pick for new compact hatchback shoppers because it's affordable, fun to drive, fuel-efficient, and has top safety scores.
Now it's your turn.
If you are looking for a compact hatch, will you look at the new Impreza?
