Subaru Tecnica International (STI) is getting the 2016 Subaru BRZ GT300 dialed in as it gets another podium finish at Fuji Speedway. Subaru wins two third place finishes in-a-row this weekend. It was the fifth round of the SUPER GT Series, Japan’s toughest race series.
The Subaru BRZ GT300 started in third place on the grid after having a fast qualifying round, and the team kept the heat on and never let up. In the first corner at the start of the race, Iguchi, got caught in traffic and slipped to fourth place, but regained the spot quickly. On the third lap, the driver passed a car on the outside to regain third position.
Yamaguchi took over after a pit stop on the 13th lap and kept the fast pace the remainder of the race. The BRZ finished in third place to gets its second podium finish in-a-row.
BRZ gets dialed in
The team is making progress after a slow start at the beginning of the season where they experienced a number of tire and suspension issues. The improvements to the BRZ sports coupe the last two races are making a difference. Yamauchi said, “The braking performance and cornering performance is a level up. Now we don’t have to worry about the different machine settings. We just go out with the thought of winning.”
The 6th round of the SUPER GT will be held August 27-28 at Suzuka Circuit for the "45th International Suzuka 1000km. The Subaru BRZ GT300 won third place in the race last year. The team hopes to win again and move up to first place. Stay tuned.
