After five months of 2023, we have a better read on where Subaru will end up this year. Subaru of America (SOA) has another impressive increase, as two new models make their dealer launch this spring. Subaru is near the top of the mountain.
SOA reported another double-digit sales increase in May, continuing the upward trajectory in 2023. Subaru says sales were up 28.2 percent in May. Subaru now has ten consecutive months with a sales increase.
In addition, all Subaru nameplates increased sales, and only one model had negative sales in May compared to last year.
SOA reported 54,531 new Subaru vehicles were delivered to customers for May 2023 compared with May 2022, when they had 42,526 sales. "We'd like to thank our retailers for going above and beyond in this tenth consecutive month of sales growth, with a 28 percent increase compared with May 2022," said Jeff Walters, new President, and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America.
Subaru is up in sales by 12.8 percent for the first five months of 2023. So Subaru has seven winners and only one loser in the percentage of increase compared with last year. Click on each red model link story for more details.

Subaru of America has only one big loser.
Legacy Sedan Is Now The Only Subaru Model With Fewer Sales Than Last Year

The Legacy sedan is down 6.8 percent in the first five months, with 9,613 models sold in 2023. Legacy is the only nameplate down year to date compared with 2022.
"Heading into summer, our sales momentum continues, and we significantly exceeded our May 2022 results," said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales. "As the road-trip season gets underway, our adventure-ready vehicles and Subaru Wilderness lineup continue to capture the imagination of consumers looking to explore the open road."
Subaru has an impressive start in the first five months of 2023. Subaru now has seven winners and only one loser. Subaru's increase in sales comes as its two new models arrive this spring: the 2024 Impreza hatchback and the 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV. This summer, sales should get even better for SOA as they attempt to summit the mountain. Stay tuned.
