The Subaru WRX STI shows up big at Big White Rally in Kelowna, BC Canada this past weekend. Big White is aptly named for its deep snow in the last rally race of the season in Canada. The 2016 Subaru WRX STI rally car driven by Antoine L'Estage and co-driver Darren Garrod win the new event to bring home the 2016 Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Co-Driver’s titles for Subaru.
Eight top-ten finishers for Subaru
Subaru was the top manufacturer with eight top-ten finishers in the record-setting 12th marque Canadian championship. L’Estage claimed his 9th Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) Driver’s title in impressive fashion, powering the Subaru WRX STI through deep snow to lead the rest of the pack by a margin of over 10 minutes. This was L’Estage's 9th Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) Driver’s title.
The Big White Rally was a new event and added to the CRC for the first time this season. “Winning the Big White Rally the first time it is a national event is a really good feeling,” said L’Estage. “We are really happy to have won the championship title for Subaru at the last event, and now for Darren and I to clinch the driver and co-driver titles here.”
L’Estage made the change to Subaru after driving the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution for many seasons. He and co-driver Darren Garrod drive for Subaru Rally Team Canada (SRTC) and win the 2016 Driver’s and Co-Driver’s Championships in impressive fashion in the deep snow in Kelowna, BC.
Trophies will be awarded at a gala event in Halifax next month. The 2017 Subaru WRX STI will need to get ready quickly for the new season. The 2017 rally season begins shortly after, at the Rallye Perce Neige in Maniwaki, Quebec in February.
