In the company’s latest 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Tesla announced CEO Elon Musk will now have “Technoking of Tesla” as an official title. In the filling Tesla also announced Zach Kirkhorn, Tesla’s chief financial officer will now also be referred to as “Master of Coin”
“Effective as of March 15, 2021, the titles of Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn have changed to Technoking of Tesla and Master of Coin, respectively. Elon and Zach will also maintain their respective positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.” reads the filling in its entirety.

Musk has been known for his unorthodox management style and disdain for the SEC. Back in October 2018, amidst the cupola over the 420 tweet, Musk announced he has relinquished all his Tesla tiles and he is the “nothing of Tesla''
Deleted my Tesla titles last week to see what would happen. I’m now the Nothing of Tesla. Seems fine so far.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 29, 2018
At the moment Musk took the action to see what would happen and what he learned was legally required officers of a corporation are president, treasurer, and secretary. In order to not confuse the authorities Musk at the time opined he will have to keep the first position.
Elon’s peculiar approach to the corporate world also goes far beyond titles. Unlike most CEOs, Musk doesn’t wear a suit and tie and has private elevators going to his office. Musk doesn’t even have an office or a cubicle at Tesla.
Like all Tesla employees, Elon has a desk out in the open where everyone can see. This allows any employee to see what Musk is working on. In addition to Musk, this setup extends to all Tesla employees and executives.

If an employee at Tesla wants to collaborate on a project or maybe ask for information from his or her coworker all they need to do is just to walk up to them and ask. This allows Tesla to breakdown unnecessary barriers ergo making the company operate more efficiently.
Musk’s current title change seen in the context of his nonconformist past behavior will probably end up just being a footnote in his leadership. There is a chance for a day or two the action can generate few negative headlines showing it as yet another sign of Musk’s folly but however, in the long run, what will matter for Tesla is how well the company is succeeding in its mission which is advancing the advent of sustainable energy.
So what do you think? Excited for Tesla to have a new “Technoking” and “Master of Coin”? Also, what do you think is the reason behind Musk choosing Technoking as a title? Let me know in the comments if you have any guesses.
