Leaked Tesla Image Show a Cybertruck Wrapped To Look Like Ford F-150, Octavalve, & Small Frunk

New leaked images show a Cybertruck prototype wrapped by Tesla to look exactly like its main competitor, the Ford F-150 Lighting. The Images also show the Cybertruck’s surprisingly small frunk space, the octovalve, 48-volt wiring, and front casting.

Recently, Tesla has been ramping up Cybertruck testing ahead of the truck’s first delivery which is expected to begin by the end of September.

In conjunction with the ramped-up testing, it has become commonplace to see a Tesla Cybertruck driving out on the roads. And these sightings have ranged from near Tesla facilities in California and Austin, Texas, to all the way in New Zealand and Alaska.

Although it’s difficult to say for sure, there are currently a dozen or so Cybertruck prototypes currently in operation. The most interesting of these prototypes have been ones wrapped in light camouflage and being used for street testing including to an In-N-Out drive-through to pick up a burger.

Recently, we have also seen a new Cybertruck prototype wrapped in darker camouflage emphasizing the truck’s aggressive and bold look.

The Cybertruck sightings have all been interesting however, today, we have gotten our hands on what might be the best Cybertruck leak so far.

These new Cybertruck pictures appear to be taken inside a body shop and show two interesting details about the Cybertruck and one absolutely bizarre Cybertruck exterior wrap.

The Cybertruck prototype on the left shows the truck with its frunk open. We’ve had previous pictures of Cybertrucks frunk open which confirmed the Cybertruck’s frunk opens together with the front grille similar to that of the Ford F-150 Lightning.

However, the previous pictures were taken from far away and we weren’t able to glean much information about the Cybertruck’s frunk space.

However, today’s leak not only shows the Cybertruck’s frunk open but, Tesla has also removed the frunk cover giving us a peak into the Cybertruck’s internals. Although not the most high-resolution pictures, we can still make out what appears to be the Cybertruck’s heat pump system, 48-volt wiring, and parts of the front casting.

From this angle, it’s difficult to say whether the heat pump system is the same octovalve design found in other Tesla vehicles, however, given the engineering and the success of the octovalve, it stands to reason that Tesla will have the same or at least similarly designed heat pump system in the Cybertruck.

In addition to the Cybertruck’s internals the new leaked images also show us the size of the Cybertruck’s frunk. The Cybertruck, because of the lack of a large engine up front has a small stubby hood design that emphasizes interior space while keeping the truck’s length relatively reasonable.

This is the design element behind Tesla’s recent announcement that the Cybertruck is the first full-sized truck to have four doors, be able to seat 5 adults, have a 6-foot plus bed, and is still less than 19 feet – which is the average length of a home garage in the US.

This was a wonderful achievement on Tesla’s part however, optimizing for the Cybertruck to fit into an average garage has also meant that Tesla has been forced to compromise on frunk space. The new leaked images show a frunk that’s perhaps not that much bigger than that of Tesla’s other current vehicle lineup.

This might disappoint some reservation holders however, in my opinion, Tesla has made the right decision by optimizing for interior space, bed length, and the Cybertruck’s ability to fit in a garage rather than giving the vehicle a large frunk.

This brings us to the third and most bizarre part of this new Cybertruck leak. On the right, we see a Cybertruck wrapped to appear to look like a Ford F-150 Lightning.

The wrap does a good job of mimicking all of the F-150 Lightning’s features including the front grille, front lights, circular wheel well, protruding door handles, and even does a good job of mimicking the F-150’s rectangular truck bed with a shadow.

It’s not exactly clear why Tesla has wrapped the Cybertruck to look like the Ford F-150 however, this is most likely yet another clever attempt by Tesla to hide the truck from prying eyes when testing out on the road.

Tesla is unlikely to offer this wrap to customers and even if the company wanted to, it would most likely be illegal, however, third-party detailing shops might be able to produce this wrap and offer it to customers who like the Cybertruck’s tech and performance but wished that it only looked like a traditional truck.

Currently, it’s not exactly clear where these Cybertruck images were taken however, we will be sure to keep you posted if we spot the F-150 Lighting wrapped Cybertruck out in the wild or if we get a higher-resolution picture of this same Cybertruck prototype.
