An elderly Cybertruck owner shares his frustration with Tesla after his 80-year-old wife fell down, and they had to drive the Cybertruck to the hospital. The issue is that Tesla has recently put the couple in a week-long FSD jail.
Ed is a Cybertruck owner from Plymouth, Michigan, and says he’s frustrated with Tesla’s full self-driving software and how it penalizes users for seemingly random reasons.
The FSD functionality was automatically included as part of the additional $20,000 Ed paid to purchase a “Foundation Series” Cybertruck.
The elderly Cybertruck owner was recently put on a week-long suspension for what the software deemed improper use.
Getting barred from a functionality you’ve paid for is bad enough; however, Ed says the suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time.
At his age, Ed increasingly relies on FSD to maneuver a large vehicle like a Cybertruck. However, as he was in the middle of the FSD suspension, his 80-year-old wife fell down, and he had to drive her to the hospital.
This would have been the ideal time to get assistance from FSD; however, ED says, at this critical moment, he was unable to access the driver assist software.
Frustrated with the whole situation, Ed went on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum and shared his experience under the title “FSD JAIL RANT.”
Here is what he wrote…
“Bought our Cybertruck on 30 September 2024 and installed FSD as soon as it was available. FSD was recently put in JAIL for one week for the first time ever. I believe it was due to the “Apply Slight Force To The Steering Wheel” messages, me applying too much force to the steering wheel on numerous occasions, and FSD turning off.
Before FSD was put in jail and when the “Apply Slight Force To The Steering Wheel” message would appear, we would have to stop/park, and both get out of the Cybertruck and get back in to continue our trip with FSD.
This was quite annoying already. But turning off FSD for one week is insane. How about one day instead of a week if we have to be penalized at all? Just having FSD turned off until the next park/drive should be enough of a penalty.
While FSD was in jail this week, my 80-year-old wife fell, and I had to take her to the Hospital for X-ray/CT scans to be evaluated for injury. I couldn’t use FSD to drive us to the Hospital.
We are using and relying on FSD more than ever, and I did not appreciate the one-week in-jail penalty or the fact that I paid for LIFETIME FSD when we purchased a Foundation Series Cybertruck. Didn’t know that it came with one-week penalties.”
This is certainly a frustrating situation and, rather ironically, is the opposite of how Tesla and Elon Musk advertise the FSD software.
In the past, Elon Musk has highlighted several situations where a Tesla driver had a medical emergency while on Autopilot. The self-driving feature was able to either assist them to get to the hospital or pull them safely to the side of the road to stop further harm.
However, in this situation, the FSD software was unavailable because Tesla had decided to punish the owner with a 1-week suspension.
Looking at the comments, other Cybertruck owners say that the situation with Ed’s wife is irrelevant and that Tesla is in the right for handing down the 1-week suspension. They also add that using FSD is a privilege and not a right.
A Tesla owner from Montana writes…
“One week is so you can figure out and think. Hey, I might be using this incorrectly. Now is the time to figure out. Over time, the strikes will be removed, and you can start again.
Safety has to come first, or the senator from Massachusetts [Elizabeth Warren] comes for our FSD. Ed Markey will hold hearings and take my road trip fun away because of people who won't take the time. People already know how to drive. This is a privilege to be had. If one doesn't understand, they needs to learn how to use it correctly.
Sorry to hear about your wife. Yet not relevant in this case.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Dennis from Boyne City, Michigan, writes…
“Eyes on the road, proper use of FSD, and respect for the technology are recommended. I have been using FSD for years, as I paid for FSD even before it was released.
I have never had more than one or two strikes and feel that the current policy of FSD suspension is very, very generous, with little to no memory of past performance, and currently lacks restrictions for repeated issues with inattentive and demonstrated disregard for safety.”
Overall, the sentiment amongst other Cybertruck owners is that Ed deserves the 1-week ban. However, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

Clearly he should not be…
Clearly he should not be driving at all! And he should have called an ambulance instead of driving her to the hospital.
Why didn't he call an…
Why didn't he call an ambulance for his wife? Also if he has trouble driving why buy a giant vehicle like a cyber truck. Don't other Tesla models have the self-drive ability? And are not gigantic and hard to drive and get into. But I do agree not being able to use a service you pay for is annoying.

Let me get this right. You sell a customer a product, in this case a $70,000.00 product and then you ( The Manufacturer) are going to PUNISH THEM??? It's almost as disturbing as the CULT members that support it!
Best advertising ever for Rivian!! I like the way Cybertruck looks but not enough to support this insanity.
Agreed. If he is not fit to…
Agreed. If he is not fit to drive, he should not be driving--and certainly not driving a 7000 lb beast
Are these other Cybertruck…
Are these other Cybertruck WANKS who attacked the elderly man for real??? Are they really just that brainwashed by Tesla and it CRAPPY SHITTY WORTHLESS FSD?
I am 100% against autonomous driving tech (made by ANY manufacturer, not just Tesla) being operated on any public roadways...however, I have a 98 year old parent who voluntarily stopped driving 6 yrs ago who loves the idea of auto driving in order to preserve independence. Sounds like that was what this man was looking for as well....sadly, he chose to go for it with a Cybertruck (God knows why)...but he should get to use what he paid for. INSANITY from Tesla...and no respect to their customers.
Sadly yes, they are for real…
Sadly yes, they are for real. Isn't amazing how culty they are about their dumb Teslas and the Muskrat?
I'm with you, I'm against full autonomous vehicles. I work for a doctor who has one, hell be in his car while it's driving doing paperwork, having meetings with Skype, thinking it's so great. If you want all of that freedom to do that while in a car, take a taxi or something.
Muskrat definitely knows his craft of appearing as a genius, but more of a snake oil salesman. He a brilliant marketer, I'll give him that. But that's where it all stops.
I can relate on the aged parent, my mom is 85, blind and deaf mostly. I took her driving from her on 2018 because she would pull into traffic and not see oncoming traffic, she almost got hit by a semi leaving my job with my at the time step children. So I had to make that decision. But I don't think FSD is thr way to go to give independence, I think it'll hinder more than anything.
To me it sounds like his…
To me it sounds like his Cybertruck was malfunctioning and he didn't realize it, then Tesla punished him for it.
There's a word for paying to…
There's a word for paying to be abused. Masochism. Additionally, there are plenty of sadistic owners out there with snarky attitudes.
How the hell did we get here?
I am 100% FOR autonomous…
I am 100% FOR autonomous driving tech by any manufacturer EXCEPT ones with shitty CEOs who mislabel their deathtraps with misleading terms like "autopilot" and "FULL self driving" when it is ABSOLUTELY NOT NOW NOR WILL IT EVER BE what they claim. They're not looking to make tech that drives for you. They're looking to make a quick buck. A REAL car company like Mercedes follows rules and regulations and doesn't get people killed by lying to them and ruining the image of automation tech the way that idiot who runs all those eX companies does. He has to put these punishments in place because legal forces him because of the slimy scumball way he mislabeled these So-Called "automation" tools. Tesla is nowhere near automation, and I definitely wouldn't advise anyone to trust the hand-chopping puddle-shorting mostly plastic CT deathtrap as anything more than a hundred thousand dollar paperweight.
Never vote for anything left…
Never vote for anything left wing then, and lobby to remove the people in government who force these situations if that's how you feel.
Imo, you're completely out to lunch.
I appreciate the intent of those in government wanting to use an abundance of caution towards autonomous driving.
I appreciate and respect Tesla for leading the way, and for choosing to go along with the governments needs, and to preempt their complaints.
The technology isn't perfect. It never will be.
But it's better than most drivers, for instance, its probably a much better driver than you.
But it will improve. You won't.

IF YOU PAY FOR A SERVICE THERE SHOULD BE NO PENALTYS OR SUSPENSIONS OR WHATEVER. THESE CYBERTRUCKS ARE NOTHING BUT A METAL TIN CAN. EF YOU ELON MUSK
Personally, I don't want to…
Personally, I don't want to be on the road with an 80 y.o. driver who "needs" FSD to drive his 3+ ton cubertruck. Sounds like Tesla's policy is working and maybe this guy should sell his cubertruck and use ride sharing services instead.
Yeah I'm also not…
Yeah I'm also not understanding why he didn't call the ambulance if it was such an emergency. But yeah a 80 year old does not need a cybertruck, or a big vehicle period if they cannot drive it without assistance.

Smh he rely on the self…
Smh he rely on the self driving? Smh if you can't drive your truck without the help of full self drive you shouldn't be driving. This moron needs his license taken away. Sounds like the 1 week no self driving is working just fine for people like this. Scary to think that there are people like this driving these 1000 hp 3 ton pieces of steel around. At 80 your license needs to be taken away end of story.

It takes 5 strikes to earn a suspension. Maybe he shouldn't use FSD if he managed 5 strikes in 3 months.
Furthermore the driver does not make it sound like an emergency "While FSD was in jail this week, my 80-year-old wife fell, and I had to take her to the Hospital for X-ray/CT scans to be evaluated for injury."
This may sound harsh, but maybe he is just at the age that he should turn in his license if he requires FSD to drive to a hospital.
I'm not 100% familiar with…
I'm not 100% familiar with cyber trucks or the fds technology, but I am thrilled that at Ed's age he had the foresight and intelligence to buy a piece of equipment to aid him in life and remaining independent, it sounds like Ed went out of his way to be minimal burden on his family and friends and bought technology, mind you I said bought, to aid him and not killing people at his age and diminished driving ability. Good for you Ed for not being so self-deluded into thinking that you don't need a little extra help. That being said I can barely believe the replies in comments of the self-righteous complete and utter jackasses. That's like saying Ed has a pacemaker and he somehow used it incorrectly so he deserves to have his pacemaker shut off for a week. I hope all you imbeciles who are writing these ridiculous and truly moronic replies remember that time stands still for no One and when you all get to be Ed's age I hope the younger generation comments about you the way you're currently commenting about Ed. For Ed to face his own mortality and limitations and spend his hard-earned money on something to aid him in life and to have it taken away from him, even though he paid for it, is truly one of the most arbitrarily idiotic things I've heard in my lifetime. I am sure the fds software was not cheap and if Ed is using it incorrectly and Tesla can see that he's using it incorrectly in some way but then they should try to educate Ed so that he can correctly use the software or give the man a refund. This is just another example of how some people are so educated that they've lost the ability to use common sense. Tick tock goes the clock for us all, and when karma comes knocking to bite you fools in the ass just remember Ed trying to get his wife to the hospital, or just trying to live his life without being a burden and know that you get exactly what you deserve. Signed utterly disgusted with my fellow man.
The piece of trash program…
The piece of trash program should be removed permanently along with the maker.
Confused why FSD, a paid…
Confused why FSD, a paid feature, is a privilege. Perhaps commenters are not aware of what FSD stands for because I am pretty sure it stands for Full Self Driving. But of course everyone knows that Tesla has greatly oversold this feature which has failed to live up to what was promised.
Not a Tesla driver, but if Ed is to be believed, does not sound like anything he was doing warranted being locked out. Didn't sound like he was sleeping at the wheel or anything. And as far as Ed being too old to be driving, I would think that would make him a perfect customer for a vehicle that can come to you and that offers "FSD". Again, not his fault that Tesla has blatantly oversold FSD capabilities and he happened to believe the hype. False advertising maybe?
And damn... It's a privilege... Gotta be a real fanboy to say that with a straight face.
Clearly, Tesla has its users…
Clearly, Tesla has its users as brainwashed as Apple users are. It's like they've joined a cult and have decided a piece of poorly written software is their god. AI not recognizing that a user is trying to follow the instructions but is overapplying pressure shows how limited the tech actually is. And the fact that anyone refers to using something bought and paid for as a "privilege" is nuts.
If you rely on FSD to drive…
If you rely on FSD to drive then don't drive.... Hang those keys up and why even by a "big truck" if you need software to help you drive it... Smh Tesla owners are something else.
When are the common people…
When are the common people on this Planet going to get sick of and revolt against these billionaire taking over the world with their money.
Yeah, this is a screen grab…
Yeah, this is a screen grab from when this man was experiencing his kids cyber truck. He's a retired Ford employee. He doesn't own one, and this is some BS koolaide you're all doing naval shots with. Y'all need a hobby.
I drive a Silverado and…
I drive a Silverado and during work, an extended van. I don't have self driving features, nor do I own a Tesla, however, if a person feels a "need" to have this feature all the time, then this person possibly ought not to be driving at all. Maybe an ambulance would have been more appropriate.
Too bad about his wife, but…
Too bad about his wife, but if you are dumb enough to buy a cyber truck, then don't complain when President Musk lies to you. Afterall, he learned from the best (Trump).
Uh. Shouldn't he just be…
Uh. Shouldn't he just be happy that the bucket of bolts didn't turn into a brick as he was driving to the hospital?
