It’s been a few years since Tesla made any noticeable changes to the Model S and X. However, the company appears to be on the precipice of launching a major refresh to the two oldest vehicles in its line up.
Ting Louie made this discovery and shared his findings with the Tesla Cybertruck group on Facebook. Ting writes, “This is not a Cybertruck, but it was definitely a Model S.” Ting then finishes his comment by asking, “Is the Model S front-end refresh coming?
In addition to his post, Ting shared a picture of the apparent refreshed Tesla Model S he spotted out in the wild. If you go to the Tesla Cybertruck Facebook group where Ting shared the image, you can see a highly camouflaged sedan crossing an intersection in broad daylight.
Besides the picture and a short statement affirming this was definitely a Tesla Model S, Ting did not provide many details about his fortuitous encounter.
Even in the picture department, Ting only managed to take a picture of the front end of the apparently refreshed Model S, which means it is difficult to ascertain whether this is indeed a refreshed Model S based on the image he shared alone.
Trying to analyze the picture, you can see that Ting’s view was occluded by several trees, a fire hydrant, a person on the phone, a trash can, and a traffic light.
With only a small portion of the vehicle in view, the biggest thing we have to go by is Ting’s words, which, without a doubt, confirm that this is definitely a Model S.
We can assume Ting knows a thing or two about Tesla vehicles, given that he is a member of a Tesla Cybertruck group on Facebook and specifically identified the vehicle as a Model S refresh.
Other evidence that supports Ting’s assertion includes the partially visible wheels on the vehicle, which appear to be awfully similar to Tesla OEM wheels. Specifically, these wheels look like the new 19-inch Nova wheels that Tesla launched with the refreshed Model 3.
There is always a chance another automaker might be using Tesla wheels to throw off onlookers; however, given the fact that automakers most likely need to test new vehicles with the same wheels they ship with, that seems unlikely.
What other evidence do we have this is indeed a Tesla Model S refresh?
Another hint to this being a Tesla Model S refresh comes from the design of the headlights. Last year, Tesla launched a major refresh to the smaller Model 3. One of the biggest visual changes that came with this vehicle was a complete redesign of the front-end fascia and headlights.
With the Model 3, especially the performance variant, Tesla decided to use a design that resembles the second-generation Tesla Roadster.
Looking at the supposed Model S refresh spotted by Ting, you can see that the front end and headlight appear similar to the refreshed Model 3 and the second-generation Roadster.
What could it be if not a Tesla Model S refresh?
Considering this is a Tesla vehicle, for the past few quarters now, the EV maker has been hinting that it is working on “several brand new vehicles, including a lower-cost vehicle.”
Musk reiterated this comment during his recent interview at the X takeover event, during which he confirmed that the 2nd-generation Roadster would definitely have the capability to fly.
Musk also said that the 2nd-generation Roadster will be unveiled next year, and the unveiling will be the greatest demo of any product ever.
However, going back to the issue at hand, during the interview, Musk confirmed that Tesla is working on several yet-to-be-announced vehicles.
This means that if the picture we saw is not a Model S refresh, it could be a brand-new Tesla vehicle about which we have yet to hear anything.
Other possibilities?
In the third category, other possibilities could encompass things such as, as I have mentioned above, a brand-new vehicle from a completely different automaker testing on the streets.
Based on the headlight and the camouflage pattern, some people have suggested that the vehicle pictured might be the 2025 Audi A6 E-Tron, the 2027 Polestar 5, or even a BYD Seal.
Overall, given the fact that we’ve only seen a small part of the vehicle, it’s difficult to say for sure what vehicle this is.
However, we’ll keep you posted as more information about future Tesla vehicles becomes available. Until then, visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.
So, what do you think? Are you excited to see a Tesla Model S refresh in the design of the 2nd generation Roadster? Also, given the picture, do you think this is a refreshed Model S? Let us know your thoughts in the comments by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below.
