A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says He Backed Onto an Old Lady in a Parking Lot. Adds, “My Cybertruck had a Minor Scratch, but I Did a Number on Her Door”

A Tesla Cybertruck owner says he crashed into a nice old lady while backing up in a parking lot. He adds, “My Cybertruck was barely scratched, but I did a number on her door.”

Sabri, a Cybertruck owner from Santa Fe, New Mexico, says that he was recently involved in an accident with a nice elderly lady.

Sabri mentioned that he was backing out of a parking spot when he accidentally crashed into the elderly lady’s Ford Edge.

The Cybertruck owner noted that his truck was hardly scratched, while the Ford sustained significant damage.

After the accident, Sabri’s insurance company determined it was his fault. However, he notes that the insurance provider was also impressed by how little damage his truck sustained.

Sabri shared the details of the incident on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

Here is what he wrote…

“OOPSY - I backed up into a nice old lady's driver-side door with a minor bumper scratch to my Cybertruck.

The parking lot at the Design Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is really tight, and I'm always a bit apprehensive about parking here.

And lo and behold, my fear became a reality; as I was backing out, a car pulled in right behind me.

My bumper contacted her car and did a number on her side door, while my bumper had only a few minor scratches.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

My insurance company said this type of accident is common and that I was at fault, but they were impressed that there was no damage to my truck aside from the cosmetic scars.

Absolutely love my Cybertruck.

PS I never got a proximity warning as I usually do when parking in and around other cars.”

Below his post, Sabri included a video of the accident taken using his Cybertruck’s sentry camera.

As you can see in the video, if you go to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, Sabri is backing out of a parking lot when a blue Ford Edge passes behind him.

Sabri shares two videos: one captured with the rear camera and the other with the side repeater camera.

As the Cybertruck was backing up, the Ford Edge was driving through the parking lot, and the two vehicles ended up colliding.

As Sabri stated, thankfully, neither vehicle was traveling at high speed, and no one was seriously injured.

In addition to the videos, Sabri also shared a couple of pictures showing the aftermath of the accident.

The old lady’s Ford Edge is noticeably damaged. The driver's side door is dented inward, and the door handle is broken.

However, Sabri shared a picture of the rear of his Cybertruck, which barely has a scratch on it.

This is certainly not an ideal situation, but Sabri still seems happy with how his Cybertruck managed the accident.

Looking at the comments, some Cybertruck owners said that it was the old lady’s fault for not driving carefully in the parking lot, whereas others praised the Cybertruck for its strength.

A fellow Cybertruck owner from Virginia writes…

“I never understand people who drive through a parking lot completely oblivious to the fact that another vehicle's backup lights are on.

While you may technically be at fault, the driver of that car was certainly negligent or at least entirely unaware. That’s not very defensive driving.”

Curious, did your Cybertruck give you any warning of the impending collision, beeping, or another alert?”

This is certainly an interesting take. Sabri clearly backed into the elderly woman, yet some Cybertruck owners appear to think the responsibility lies with the driver in the parking lot.

In addition to this perspective, as I have already noted, Cybertruck owners were also impressed by the minimal damage the truck sustained during the accident.

A fellow Cybertruck owner from Southern California writes…

“That other car must have been crushed. The toughness of the Cybertruck is on display again. No wonder the demand keeps growing!”

Another Cybertruck owner, "Gigahorse," echoes this sentiment by saying...

“A testament to the bumper. Seems odd that you didn't get a cross-traffic reverse warning etc.”

Steve, a third Cybertruck owner from San Diego, shares how sturdy the Cybertruck is by recounting a recent accident he was involved in.

Steve writes…

“I’ve had my Cybertruck for about three months. A couple of weeks ago, I got rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. I felt the impact and expected the worst as I got out of my truck to check for damage.

The guy’s front end was pretty badly damaged, but I couldn’t see any damage whatsoever to my rear bumper, so I just took a picture of his license plate and driver’s license.

I inspected my Cybertruck further when I got home, and I suppose *maybe if the planets are perfectly aligned and you shine a flashlight at the bumper, you can kinda sorta see a very small imperfection. Good day for me. Bad day for him.”

Overall, fellow Cybertruck owners seem satisfied with how their trucks perform during an accident. However, please let me know what you think in the comments. Any truck will do that to a door. I have a friend that got himself a ram 2500. He literally drove over a bmw I have no idea how he did it but I think the bmw was totaled lucky it was older and his truck didn't even have a scratch.

It is always the driver backing up that is at fault. He even had a camera to let him know she was there.
