Tesla Cybertruck

A Tesla Cybertruck owner reports a noticeable rust line appearing on his truck after it was keyed. However, he encounters unexpected criticism from Tesla enthusiasts who think the Cybertruck is immune to rust.

Alejandro Quiroga is a Cybertruck owner from Dallas, Texas, and says his truck was recently keyed.

This is bad enough, and I should add a crime; however, making matters worse, Alejandro says his truck developed a distinct rust line where the truck was keyed.

The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Tesla CyberTruck group on Facebook.

He writes…

“Fun fact: when your Cybertruck gets Keyed, it turns into a rust line.”

Alejandro then proceeds to inquire from the Cybertruck community if it’s possible to remove the rust line.

He writes…

“Any ideas on how to remove it?”

Below his post, Alejandro shared a picture of his Cybertruck showing a straight, thin, yellowish-brown rust line running across the stainless steel door.

Looking at the comments, the first thing people wanted to know was if Alejandro has a video of the person keying his Cybertruck.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Christopher Micallef, asks…

“Do you have a video of it getting keyed?

However, in response, Alejandro says he was not able to capture the perpetrator during the act, writing…

“no, I had Sentry Mode turned off.”

This is bad enough; however, Alejandro has received significant pushback from people who do not believe his story.

At this point, you might think that those casting doubt on Alejandro’s story are Tesla detractors. However, surprisingly, the most skeptical people regarding Alejandro’s claims are Tesla fans.

The majority of division within the Tesla community arises from Cybertruck fans who believe the truck’s stainless steel cannot rust and others who argue that while the truck typically won’t corrode, it could if it’s keyed.

A Tesla enthusiast in the “The Cybertruck’s stainless steel can’t rust” category, Erik M. Huerta, writes…

“Good stainless can't rust. It gets a line or swirls in it, but then you can buff it out depending on the depth.

The only way stainless will rust is if you give it an electrolysis with sodium chloride, for example.”

This is a bold statement in support of the Cybertruck; however, fellow Tesla fan Jeana Kaplan Rawa disagrees with this assertion.

Jeana writes…

"Yes, stainless steel can rust. In this case, the corrosion on the Cybertruck’s stainless steel happened because of the metal or iron transferred from the key."

If they don't stop the deterioration it will cause the stainless to start rusting.

The protection oxygen layer has been compromised from the scratch.”

However, another Tesla fan in the “The Cybertruck’s stainless steel can’t rust” camp writes…

“It's NOT rust...It’s iron oxide caused by the rain.”

In response, a fellow Cybertruck owner, who wishes to avoid casting doubt on Alejandro’s claim that his truck began to rust after being keyed, replies by writing…

“oxidized iron is rust.”

Overall, looking at the comments, it’s interesting to see the divide between those who believe the Cybertruck is immune to corrosion and those who feel compelled to support a fellow owner who fell victim to an act of vandalism.

Tesla owners are like Maga, believe any bs they are fed by the clowns. If you think teslas won't rust I have a bridge I'll sell you. You overpriced pos will rust long before any modern conventional car. Take a science class.

Kinda like how democrats believed Joe was "sharp as a tack", crying about "saving democracy" as that drunk Harris is selected to be your nominee without voting for her, believing the Russia hoax, the lies about Trump calling vets suckers and losers, the lie about Trump saying Nazis are fine people, and every other lie your favorite news outlet tells you?

Putin thanks Trump for destroying western alliances, Hegseth drunk dialed a reporter about top secret war plans, we ALL knew Biden was old, feeble but he surrounded himself with experts and listened to them and Harrison was correct about EVERY prediction regarding Agent Orange becoming president and killing the stock market with tariffs.

The only good coming out of this mess with Elon is now die hard never-electric peeps are driving new, fully electric Swastikars.

Exactly but 1000 times worse. As most questioned Joe it's why he stepped down. Unfortunately for Republicans MAGA doesn't see the damage Elon is doing, or don't care not sure. which. At least at this point all seem to accept Elon is running the show. Hence them buying his stock to keep him from failing now.

Since Sir Idiot Orange started selling Teslas from the green at the Whitehouse like sone poorly-scripted soap opera commercial, MAGA are now TESLA drivers; one and the same.

Those panels are made out of 302 stainless. It has way more carbon than a true stainless such as 304 and 316. 316 stainless is the best, however stamping a real stainless such as 316 is much harder to form panels in the stamping process.

Stainless can be hard or soft, it all depends on the final annealed condition. The metal will typically be very hard after final cold rolling; that hardness can be reduced by heating the metal up, like putting a cold stick of butter in the microwave for a couple seconds.

Is the pushback really unexpected?

There's no larger cult than Tesla owners.

Seems that after all the endless articles by Tinsae avoidng the problem with Eelon's support of N*zi's, and the unmitigated failure that is the much-recalled Cyberlemon, he should know better...

Everyone who can should “key one” and prove to “the privileged ones” that they are correct. ✅ Then they can just complain to Muskovite.

All I can say is this:
If you really think the Cyber Trashcan is rust/corrosion proof, then your the type of person that the Trump Regime wants....
Even 302 Stainless (surgical stainless that's NON MAGNETIC) will corrode/rust.over time...... It's just incredibly resistant to it .... Not immune otherwise it'd be called STAIN PROOF.

It probably wasn’t an actual key, but a piece of iron rebar or pipe. If enough iron transfers into the scratch rust can and does happen. It won’t spread unless the stainless is only an outer layer and not the whole way through, which I don’t think is the case. So, no, it most likely won’t continue rusting, but it will continue to look unsightly.

Funniest thing about the Cyber (Truck) is that it needs the pronoun Truck to express it's identity so nobody gets confused.

Stainless steel is rust resistant but not rust proof. Th4re are different grades of stainless steel, a lower grade is 304 s.s. and goes up from there to stainless steel scalpels which are high quality.

It's was scratched with and item that was a standard metal that transfered its particals into the cyber trucks stainless panel. It's not the trucks panel that is rusting. It's the particals from the item that scratched the truck. Cyber truck stainless does not corode.
