One Super Slick and Incredible Car
In an episode of Jay Leno's garage, you can see the camera panning to the front of a fiery red, 2024 Tesla Model 3 "Highland". The car is super slick, aero-dynamic, and just looks incredible. This car is under $40,000 for the base version and offers tremendous value for the price.
Jay talked with chief engineer and designer from Tesla, Franz Von Holzhausen and Lars Moravey. Jay saw subtle changes, but the folks from Tesla had more to say.

They said it was about seven years ago when the Model 3 was introduced. The idea of it was to make a smaller and more affordable Model S - to shrink it down and make it much more affordable. It's been a great car, affordable, and fun to try.
Tesla wanted to mature the car - they improved the front end of it and the headlights, as well as making it more aero-dynamic. The rear end is new, along with the tail lights.
.291 is the current drag coefficient - making it Tesla's best aero-dynamic car. The range of the 2024 Tesla Model 3 long range is over 300 miles - at 341 miles to be exact. The read-wheel drive version, under $40,000, has 272 miles of range and can be charge to 100% every day.

Tesla improved the safety and side crashes of the vehicle. The Tesla Model 3 should be the only sedan to do this. The car was also made lighter with new tiles and wheels.
There's a new interior with new screens, ventilated seats, and a screen in the back. The ride is much quieter inside as well.
The range of the Tesla Model 3 is interesting. In the rear-wheel drive, you can charge the LFP batteries to 100% all the time. In the long range vehicles, you should charge 80% to 90%, unless on a road trip.

Jay had his first Tesla for seven years, and his car lost about 3% of range and got to 221 miles of range. Gas cars tend to lose efficiency over time, too.
When Tesla makes a new car and tires, they make the car more efficient. The new Tesla tire gives you range back because it's more efficient - along with the wheel design.
The 2024 Model 3 Highland is an incredible car. It's an environmentally friendly car that is fast, performant, has great range, and handles well - while being one of the safest vehicles on the road.
Jay asked about how long it takes to get to a 2 to 3 minute fill up when charging. Tesla's VPs responded that it comes down to efficiency. Even at 1,000 volts and 350 kW, that's 350 kw/hour. If you have a 50 kW battery, it would take 1/7 of an hour if you can put all the energy in at one time.
The key is making the charging more efficient over time, and that is something that is happening as Tesla upgrades their batteries and charging.
The price of the 2024 Model 3 Rear-Wheel-Drive is: $38,990.
The price of the 2024 Model 3 Long Range is: $47,740.
