Tesla FSD Version 12 - Like a Human Brain
Tesla's FSD Version 12 is getting a lot more attention these days due to it being able to do things that version 11 did not do. The consensus for it is that it is much more assertive in what it does, and it feels more smooth compared to version 11. Due to the increased assertiveness, it's no wonder that Tesla is being careful and slow to roll it out to a wide release.
In the latest case of FSD 12 doing something human like, there is a video of it driving through a busy intersection in a crowded area with people and cars. Tesla's FSD 12 creeps forward ever so slightly at the center of the street and then shoots a gap in between pedestrians who are coming from both ways.
In some sense, as you use FSD 12, you'll start to think the same way it does and be able to predict what it is going to do. This is how you know it is getting more and more like a human brain.

Tesla's FSD version 12 drives mostly like a teenager who is learning to drive - but can still drive, however, some of the recent videos I've seen show it driving like a very capable adult driver who knows what they are doing.
The primary advantage of Tesla's FSD is that it is ALWAYS paying attention and calculating what to do - whereas a human driver can get distracted, have their mind wander, and is affected by fatigue.

How Much Better Will FSD Version 12 Get?
This particular video from Tesla's FSD version 12 seemed to be in a car with hardware 3 - that is, cameras and hardware that aren't from 2024. The fact that the software can drive using this setup is encouraging, however, I'd say that this is the BOTTOM of performance for it and that things will only improve from here.
As the cameras improve, and it becomes more likely that Tesla's FSD software can see clearly and identify what is going on while driving - and gets more processing power as computers improve, the software is going to get better at processing.
Then, as more and more data gets added from the Tesla fleet - which is just over 5 million vehicles right now, the car will start driving better and better - surpassing even the best adult human drivers.
Tesla has ambitious goals, such as getting to 20 million vehicles per year in production. I love this goal and it may be some time before Tesla can do it - beyond 2030 - but, as Tesla grows their fleet - even if it's just 2 million deliveries this year - that's another 2 million vehicles in the fleet.

This extra fleet data along with better cameras and compute processing is what will make Tesla's FSD reach level 4 and level 5 autonomy. I imagine that with 100 million cars on the road, it's very unlikely that Tesla's FSD will see a situation that it doesn't have as part of its neural net training.
Imagine for a moment that you have the knowledge - easily accessible - from driving billions of miles on the road all over the world. You would know what to do in every situation perfectly because you've seen it all.
Then, add to that some simulated data of things that could happen, but aren't likely to happen as edge cases, and you have a car that will make the right decision every time.
It's tough to bet against Tesla FSD long-term, knowing that as compute gets more powerful and as cameras get better and as Tesla gets more training video data, that the software just keeps getting better and better.
