"I Am A Toyota Dealer And Here's Why We Offer The Toyota Land Cruiser For Under MSRP"

It may have something to do with the specific trim's lack of popular options, present on other Toyota Land Cruiser J250 models

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser J250 did a lot of things right. There are four features of the new Land Cruiser that make it a great offering in the SUV segment. For 2025, the Toyota Land Cruiser J250 starts at $56,700, which is just $1,250 more than last year's retail price as shown by a dealer on the Facebook group, Toyota Land Cruiser J250 Series.

The post I stumbled upon on Facebook titled "In case someone is looking for a base Land Cruiser with no BS accessories, and a life time warranty! " showed a dealer selling a J250 Land Cruiser for nearly $3,000 under MSRP.

Why are dealerships selling Toyota Land Crusier 1958 for under MSRP?

When you think about it, this is almsot five percent off the MSRP, which doesn't sound like a lot, but for a near-$56,000 car, it could be the difference for some SUV buyers, between buying the Land Cruiser or going for something else.

As I dug around it was apparent that posts for the new Land Cruiser being sold for less than MSRP have become increasingly common. It seems, most of these posts are related to the 1958 trim.

So, what are people not getting by going for the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958?

By going for the Land Cruiser 1958 trim, you do not get soft-touch materials on most contact surfaces in the interior. The Land Cruiser 1958 is an homage to early Land Cruiser generations, which were rugged and basic. You still get an 8.0-inch touchscreen (instead of a 12.3-inch on higher trims), but that's about the only significant modernity worth mentioning. The seats are cloth and manually adjustable, but they are heated.

Basic options like the skid plate and all-weather mats are available for both Land Cruiser J250 variants.

By choosing the 1958 model, you are also locked out of the optional 20-inch alloy wheels. More importantly, you cannot choose the optional stabilizer disconnect mechanism (SDM) on the 1958 trim, which electronically connects and disconnects the stabilizer bars for better stiffness on-road and better chassis articulation off-road.

Should you still get the Land Cruiser 1958?

This dealer in particular listed a Land Cruiser 1958 for $2,836 under MSRP and it seems this isn't the only case. The real question is, should the lack of some desired options deter you from getting the Land Cruiser 1958? There are plenty of popular mods that can turn your Toyota Land Cruiser into the perfect SUV for you.

Toyota Land Cruiser's other problem

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958 J250

Toyota's Land Cruiser has been the go-to, dependable, go-anywhere SUV for decades. Over the years, the Toyota SUV became more tech-heavy and luxurious but still retained the classic, body-on-frame platform. The Land Cruiser J250 did a few things that are controversial. It gave the Land Cruiser a four-cylinder engine after discontinuing the beloved V-8, it made it smaller than the J300, and it made it less luxurious.

The latter can be remedied if you opt for the Lexus GX, which is more different than the Land Cruiser than you may think. It seems dealerships having Land Cruiser 1958s in stock are between a rock and a hard place. This could mean the bargain of the century for some prospective buyers. Let us know what you think in the comment section below. Is the Land Cruiser 1958 enough of a value even at less-than-MSRP?
