In a previous article I covered the new 2015 Jaguar F-Type AWD and the speculation that they might consider building an AWD 6-speed manual version in the V8 model. If that happens, it would set up one of the most anticipated track attack battles that we have seen in years. Could the mighty Porsche 911 Turbo be worried? My dad always said while we were watching boxing matches years ago “You have to whip the champ” and that’s what the Jaguar would have to do. If you want to be the champion, you can’t just go toe to toe with the champ; you have to leave the ring knowing you whipped him.
When this epic battle of brawn takes place, the stop watches will be smoking and the drivers will be in heaven as they set the pace in these 2-door lightning bolts. Until we see if Jaguar will build the F-Type R Coupe in the 6-Speed Manual V8 AWD version, the tale of the tape below is where we will leave the speculations to simmer.
2015 Porsche 911 Turbo Specs:
- Engine: Flat 6 cylinders, 520 horsepower, 487 lb. ft. torque
- Active AWD
- 0 – 60 mph = 3.2 seconds
- 0 – 100 mph = 7.4 seconds
- 195 mph top speed
- MSRP $151,100
2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe:
- Engine: 5.0-liter V8, 550 horsepower, 502 lb. ft. torque at only 3500 rpm
- Rear Wheel Drive
- 0 – 60 mph = 4.0 seconds (Car and Driver est. 3.5 seconds)
- 0 – 100 mph = 8.3 seconds
- 186 mph top speed
- MSRP $110,000 (nicely equipped, but not with the Carbon-Ceramic brakes)
In recent testing the Jaguar blistered the Nürburgring at a respectable time of 7 minutes 39 seconds, which was even faster than the “Hand Built” Jaguar XK220 Supercar just a few years ago. Motor Trend reported that the XK220 ran it in 7 minutes 45 seconds.
All I need to know is where can I buy tickets to this epic fight? I’m getting my popcorn ready and will settle into my ringside seat to see the blood fly as these two gladiators go to war on the track.
Jaguar might not want to watch the mind numbingly fast clips of the 2015 Porsche Turbo S at the famed Nürburgring in Germany.
