The final totals are not in, yet Ford is already claiming the top spot when it comes to vehicle sales for 2024. Ford today proclaimed “For the 48th year in a row, Ford F-Series reigns as America's best-selling truck – with more than 33 million sold since 1977. This unprecedented streak also marks its 43rd year as the nation's top-selling vehicle overall – underscoring its position as America’s favorite vehicle.”
"The enduring legacy of the F-Series is not just a result of our relentless pursuit of improvement but also a reflection of the trust between Ford, our dealers and customers," said Andrew Frick, President of Ford Blue "We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers and are committed to continuing to earn their business every single day."
Total Sales Numbers Can be Confusing
The numbers can be misleading. Ford lumps all of its light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the F-Series banner. While GM has two truck brands under the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra nameplates. When added together, the GM brands have outsold the F-Series trucks in some years. GM said at the end of the third quarter that it had the best-selling full-size trucks in the U.S. when the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra were added together.
Ford credits its wide range of available models for its popularity. From F-150, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025, to F-600, Ford sells a diverse range of powertrains to meet every customer's needs. Ford offers gas and diesel-powered trucks plus PowerBoost hybrids as well as its all-electric F-150 Lightning. Interestingly, Ford does not sell its smaller Ranger and Maverick models under the F-Series banner. Both of the smaller trucks have had great sales numbers in recent years.
Ford is Determined to Keep the Truck Crown
The 2025 F-Series lineup will continue to offer innovative solutions for people who use their trucks as mobile offices. Technology improvements will impress the drivers who need more capability and the drivers who use the trucks as a family vehicle.
