This is the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and it is the first compact SUV done by AMG. Following the recipe of the C43 coupe and sedan, the GLC43 begins with a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with 362 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased version of Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system get all of that power onto the road. The chassis gets a sport-tuned air suspension with three-mode dampers, stiffer bushings, stronger steering knuckles and larger brakes.
Outside, the GLC43 gets a diamond-pattern grille, new splitter, 20-inch wheels finished in black, and a rear diffuser. The interior is furnished with sport seats, flat-bottom steering wheel, and an AMG instrument cluster.
"With the new AMG GLC43 we are offering an AMG model in the mid-size SUV segment for the first time. The new SUV from Affalterbach marks the pinnacle of the GLC product range and in the AMG portfolio it closes the gap between the GLA and GLE," says Tobias Moers, CEO at Mercedes-AMG GmbH in a statement.
The GLC43 will join the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 at the New York Auto Show next week. Sales will begin towards the end of the year.
