“It is four-wheel drive and we’re going to have a Drift Mode,” said Mercedes' company chairman Tobias Moers to Autocar.
To pull this off, Mercedes will be fitting the E63 with a special version of the 4Matic all-wheel drive system that fully variable, capable of sending all of the power - above 600 horsepower according to Moers - to the rear wheels. To activate this, there will be a program on the electronic stability control system called Drift Mode.
The combination of the 4Matic system and drift mode not only will make the E63 more fun, but also faster.
“It’s faster on the (Nürburgring) Nordschleife than ever. It’s going to be under 7min 50sec [when fitted with] the standard tyres," said Moers.
The next-generation E63 is expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
