Dodge is unveiling an SUV guaranteed to blow the doors off all the other family haulers. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will have 710 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat will feature the same supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V-8 that powers the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the Dodge Charger Hellcat.
Super Power on a Sport Utility Vehicle
The 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat will go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. The Durango SRT Hellcat will also feature Fiat Chrysler’s new Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The Uconnect 5 is five times faster that the Uconnect 4 system and has an available 10.1-inch touchscreen. Fiat Chrysler is making the Uconnect 5 system available in all of its brands when they undergo significant redesigns or freshening.
2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat’s Limited Production
Dodge will only build the Durango SRT Hellcat for the 2021 model year.
The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will also have a Tow N Go package with towing capacity of 8,700 pounds.
"The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango delivers Dodge performance as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. "And new for 2021, we have raised the bar even higher. The 710-horsepower Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It’s the last piece of the puzzle and, alongside the Charger and Challenger, completes the Dodge brand’s performance lineup.”
Kuniskis told Fox News that the extra horsepower is a key selling point for the SRT and Hellcat models. "If I would've talked to every single person who was going to buy a Dodge this year and said, 'hey, if I gave you a 9.5-inch touchscreen instead of the 8.5-inch touchscreen, or you had a choice of a hundred horsepower, which would you take?' It's a no-brainer. They'll take the hundred horsepower."
Huge Horsepower Announcements
Dodge announced its most powerful SUV ever on the same day that it announced a Challenger Hellcat Redeye Super Stock car. It will be the first ever full production road car with more than 800 horsepower, offering 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Torque News Managing Editor Patrick Rall has that story.
Dodge will have six different trim levels for the Durango, which has three rows of seats. The trims are SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat.
SRT engineers upgraded the Durango SRT Hellcat to improve handling, including several race-inspired technologies and huge Brembo brakes. The Durango SRT Hellcat requires 116 feet to come to a full stop from 60 mph. The massive Brembo high-performance brakes measure 15.75 inches (front) and 13.8 inches (rear). According to Fiat Chrysler, “The 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat will do the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds. It also delivers a road course lap time 1.5 seconds faster than the 2020 Durango SRT 392 on a 2.1-mile road course, equal to 9 car lengths after one lap.”
2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat orders will open this fall and are scheduled to start arriving in dealerships early in 2021.
