According to a press release put out by Genesis, the G80 Sport was selected for its “elegant, powerful lines and athletic appearance.”
Genesis' Statement
“Our brand is built on design, and the balance of beauty and functionality,” Luc Donckerwolke, head of Genesis design, said in the same press release. “The G80 Sport being named a finalist in the prestigious International Design Excellence Awards is validation of those efforts. Genesis design is inspired from pure expressions of inner beauty which embody the perfect harmony between engineering and design. It’s great to get support from others in the design community for something that we’ve put so much passion into.”
What this means for the brand is that it’s getting recognized already for stylish design, despite being a very new brand with a currently very small lineup of model choices. Whether the car actually wins an award or not, this is a feather in the cap for a small brand that’s new to market, and it will help give Genesis a reputation as a key player in the luxury market. It will further help the brand stand out from parent Hyundai.
Our Thoughts
We also happen to agree with The Industrial Designers Society of America – the Genesis G80 Sport is a good-looking car. Luxury is as much about style as it is about pampering, and the G80 Sport is one sexy sedan.
It may or may not be an award-winner, but it will turn heads.
