The 2021 RAV4 Prime is one of Toyota’s hottest models – and it is not even here yet. Find out what fans have to say about the waiting game.
Are you ready for the newest RAV4? The all-new 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime should reach retail dealerships this summer and people cannot wait.
After all, this is the most powerful and quickest RAV4 to-date. 302 horsepower. A 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds, which makes 2020 and 2021 Supra the only faster vehicle in Toyota’s lineup.
Of course, we should address fuel mileage too. It IS a plug-in electric hybrid after all. This new RAV4 Prime has an estimated gas efficiency of 90 MPGe (gasoline plus electric rating). Combine that with an electric battery range of around 39 miles and you have a fantastic commuter vehicle.
People are excited for what is to come.

What you had to say about RAV4 Prime
A good part of the internet has been abuzz talking about the newest addition to the best-selling SUV in America’s lineup. One of my favorite YouTube channels (besides my own Toyotajeff channel) is Alex on Autos. I looked at comments from his viewers and it surprised me just how popular this RAV4 Prime is going to be.
2A556FMJ said, “Wow it’s like Toyota read my wish list and checked all the boxes. Finally, Toyota gives us tech AND reliability.”
Anthony has Prime on his radar. “This has gone straight to the top of my next car short list. Well done Toyota!”
“I enjoy my Prius prime. Only filled gas tank once this summer. This new RAV4 is a consideration for an upgrade for me.” Commented Candycane2.
“302 hp on a Toyota RAV4 is really a surprise.” Added Bong Lim2.
Bolo is pleased with the new RAV4. “This looks so beautiful. This is now my new dream car!”
OB2 had this to say. “Man, this will sell. Hopefully there isn’t a huge premium over it. I’m definitely interested.”
“Looks Nice. Going to trade in the Prius Prime for the RAV4 Prime.” Said Ocean Medical.
Chunhaylee2 sees the hybrid landscape changing. “This thing is going to be a game changer for PHEVs.”
“Now this is the vehicle worth waiting for, I like the fact that hybrid (prime) vehicle will be faster.” Stated LNL2.
“Prime! It can’t come soon enough!” Exclaimed Benjamin (a viewer of my channel, and probably Alex on Autos too).
“Here in Canada with the early winter we are having and the expensive gas prices. I doubt they will be able to keep up with demand in the first year.” Wondered flakeu2.
Time for your thoughts on 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime
We are told by Toyota the RAV4 Prime will be available for retail sale in the United States in summer of 2020. That is all we can go on at this point. I have heard rumors it may be delayed a bit until fall but that has not been confirmed at all. Time will tell.
Will there be enough supply to fulfill the sure pre-orders and growing demand for this brand new RAV4? Last year there was an incredible frenzy to find RAV4 Hybrids for waiting customers and that is beginning to simmer down due to increased production. What course will RAV4 Prime take?
What do you think of 2021 RAV4 Prime? Will you want to see it in person and test it out right away, or will you wait and see what demand is like first? What features or key highlights are appealing to you?
Thanks for reading everyone. I will be covering developing RAV4 Prime stories as these next few months go by.

My opinion is that if Toyota
My opinion is that if Toyota can deliver the 2021 RAV4 Prime with these specs it will definitely sell out. I want one. I have had this vehicle on my radar since it was announced.
I am one of the excited ones
I am one of the excited ones waiting for the Rav4 Prime to arrive. I had a deposit on a Rav4 Hybrid and had to wait almost 3 months for it to come in. After my order, they announced the Rav4 Prime. My Hybrid came in and I reluctantly let it go. I told my dealer that I wanted the Rav4 Prime. So now my deposit has carried over to the Prime and they said I will be one of the five vehicles that this dealership will be allotted.
Fred,
Fred,
Your dealer has allotment numbers already?
I've spoken to several in my neck of the woods and they have no info.
Any chance you can share the dealers name and location?
Not going to poach anything, just want to get some questions answered.
How about you Jeff any allotment info ?
Thanks,
Dan

My salesman guessed that they would only get 5. I deal with Mayfield Toyota in Edmonton, AB
When I bought my Bolt, the
When I bought my Bolt, the RAV4 Hybrid was a close contender. The RAV4 Prime would have been a slam dunk if it was available or even announced. What's not to like? EV driving most of the time and total freedom traveling anywhere I want. An upgrade I would want would be an adjustable height suspension system for more clearance over rough, backcountry roads and less clearance on the freeway. Certainly, it is going to be a hit. I'm envious.

I cancelled my RAV4 XSE to get the Prime. Dealer still has my 1K. deposit. Went to the Chicago Auto show last week to see the Prime only to be disappointed. It was locked and on a walled turntable. The reps. had no info of value. Honestly you Mr Jeff are the leading source. Please keep us updated!
I am in line for a RAV4 Prime
I am in line for a RAV4 Prime but I think what is more interesting is how it will show the rest of the auto market what people are REALLY wanting.
We have a 2019 Rav4 Limited
We have a 2019 Rav4 Limited Hybrid, and love it. Our only complaint is the Entune system, especially navigation. This should be effortless, as Garmin and others have it quite perfected. We still use our phones to get where we want to go - a shame! Hopefully the 2021 Prime will get better.
Dealers know very little so
Dealers know very little so far, and even what info is out there is contradictory. One dealer said only ZEV states would receive them. Another said they wouldn't arrive until 2021. Of the four dealers I contacted, nobody is taking names or orders yet.
Yeah this looks pretty good
Yeah this looks pretty good spec wise .
Now if Toyota can fix the gas fill problem on the regular hybrid it
would be outstanding. The gas fill problem had me put the delay
on getting a regular rav hybrid. The thing is it looks like this is getting
some of the Tesla like following . So what will be the extra cost
and can you even get one?
Toyota has some experience in doing these to I would think there would
be a minimum of new model problems.
I'm also ready to move on to
I'm also ready to move on to my next vehicle and was really excited about an XSE until I heard about the Prime, and figured I would wait until it comes out this summer (as initially estimated). But now that I have been reading about all of the gas tank fill problems, I'm definitely going to have to wait until Toyota sorts out a fix. It sounds like a major redesign is needed, but I hope not. And if the tank is not improved on the first batch of Primes to actually be able to fill up, they can count me out. Was really hoping to take advantage of the $7,500 tax credit, but not at the expense of only being able to put ~10 gallons into a 14.5 gallon tank. Come on Toyota, how could you have let this happen?
Me I pre-ordered the rav4
Me I pre-ordered the rav4 prime, and I have no problem with having only 10 gallons on 14.5. At probably 5.9l/100 it is a good 640km + 65km of ev = 705km range. Give me an other SUV car hybrid or SUV gas model that do that? especially with 10 gallons. the issue is a bit exaggerated. it would be a problem for a gas model, but for the prime especially where you will use the ev mode 95% of the time, and still having 705km range + 13000 $ rebate, It would be crazy to not order it.. And they have probably redesigned the tank to fit the battery in the prime anyway.
As soon as I read the specs
As soon as I read the specs on the RAV4 Prime, I realized it was a breakthrough PHEV with the potential to start a PHEV war. All Toyota did was put a larger, high-output Li-ion battery under the floor to lower center of gravity, beef up its motors, and make the base model an SE, which means better handling and a few more features than a base Toyota model usually has. Even the SE has on-demand AWD and should be priced around $36,000 in the U.S. It will be eligible for the full $7500 federal tax credit, bringing final cost to around $29,000. In contrast, the cheapest AWD Tesla Model Y will be priced at $52,000 with no federal tax credit. Guess which one I want?
If this is the new standard for future PHEV's, the EV revolution will take a lot longer than expected. The beauty of PHEV's is their ability to completely ignore charging stations. They can be EV's around town and conventional vehicles on the highway. They get great gas mileage, which also extends their range. And now, they can be quicker and torquier than a V6.
I totally agree. I don't like
I totally agree. I don't like FULL EV, you have a huge battery of 500kg and you need to plan trips for charging station. if you make a mistake, nobody can bring you gas, you have to wait at stations, and people in apartment cannot charge.
Also you rely on two possible source of energy which is better. With PHEV, the battery is lightweight compared to full ev vehicle (1/5 of weight), and is less expensive to replace. Also the gas engine is still strong for the winter and acceleration. if there is electricity shortage, there is a huge chance you have plenty of gas in your tank to go to the next city and fill the tank fully and go to work and charge at work. with PHEV you can do 95% of what you can do with full EV plus advantage of filling the tank in 2 min everywhere even in the most lost city in the world, there is a gas station. I don't buy their wrong advertisement of the full EV. don't fall into it. also the gas will become less expensive in the future with more electric car, and city will have difficulty to provide the energy so electricity will increase. Having both sources give you the choice.
Sounds like Toyota has a real
Sounds like Toyota has a real winner. I have a feeling Toyota plant will work 24 hours and still not keep up with the demand during the 1st year. Cannot wait till the car hits the market and users start commenting how the car drives. I am postponing my next car buy until I see this model.
May be a winner but I know
May be a winner but I know here in the southwest, with no choice of seats, the standard plastic seats in all the trims would be a dealbreaker for many, based on how plastic doesn't hold up well in 115F heat. Saving grace is the 300+ hp, 10 year battery warranty, the style, and a real spare tire, unlike the CR-V hybrid.
I wish to order a 2021 Toyota
I wish to order a 2021 Toyota RAV4, the model with the large display screen. Will Rodland Toyota, Everett, WA receive the 2021 RAV4 in July 2020? Please keep me advised. Colin Miller is the nicest salesman for Toyota. He tries 100% for the shopping customers. He could teach Cal Worthington and his dog Spot how nice a salesperson can be.

Hope the folks at Toy have learned from the previous version.
For example:
Cameras are not a fix when it comes to the massive blind spots.
Make sure consumers can directly disable nags such as the backseat belt alarms.

Waiting lists will go for a year or more... pricing seems steep at near 50k CAD but if they put that powertrain on a Sienna or better yet an Econoline sized panel van with the same ground clearance as the Rav Id be willing to go that high.
Next best thing to an
Next best thing to an electric RAV 4, which Toyota is promising down the road. Currently have a Bolt EV that gives roughly 300 mile range overall, but this would be good as it could be my only car instead of having a gas car in the garage for long trips. Just feel I'd be going "backwards" from being "green" to using gas again.
Really excited about this
Really excited about this vehicle. I've been to a few dealerships in ontario and they no very little about the details, one even told me it wouldn't be available in ontario!?
Does anyone have any more info on a Canadian rollout and availability?
I'm jazzed about the RAV4
I'm jazzed about the RAV4 Prime. I've been asking/telling Toyota to do a plug-in truck or SUV for years (customer feedback and surveys). Low-end torque, lower CoG, balance F/R weight disty – it’s a trifecta. I have 2 Prius Primes. I’m very happy with them. I hyper-mile and typically get 35-40+miles per charge (not 25) and can milk 80-100 hybrid mpg (not MPGe) on my commute to/from work if I'm not charged up. Roll all this potential into a RAV4 (granted, there will be an efficiency penalty for the SUV config)... I will happily add an R4P to my garage.
The EV magazines say this is
The EV magazines say this is a step backward for Toyota as they already had an EV and are going to be bringing out EVs with solid-state batteries soon after GM in 2023. But if we all remember these are transitional vehicles....first hybrids, then PHEVs, and then finally "green" vehicles (EVs). Right now my two neighbors and I only have an EV and with almost 300 miles on a charge on my Bolt, I find my daily commutes are much less than that.
Hi all! Can someone tell me
Hi all! Can someone tell me where in the US (ideally CA and even better Northern California) I can pre-order a Toyota RAV4 Prime? I've been waiting for a performance PHEV with AWD and SUV body style. Called a few local dealers and with COVID plant shutdowns I can't find a lead on an even a deposit anywhere....
