So much publicity is given to the Ford Raptor for its off-road prowess as well as its on-road performance, and rightfully so. The Raptor is awesome!
But let’s not overlook the F-250 Super Duty Tremor which deserves more credit for its performance as well as its off-road prowess.
Over at Motor Trend, they proved this point when they took the 2020 F-250 Super Duty Tremor with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine onto the track. The track numbers for a truck that weighs nearly 4 tons and rode on 35-inch off-road tires were eye opening.
On a drag strip, Motor Trend was able to get the Tremor from 0-60 MPH in 7.2 seconds. It also ran the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds. Wow! Those numbers aren’t records, but for a non-modified, heavy V8 diesel truck, I am impressed to see that kind of performance.
Comparing the Super Duty 6.7-liter V8 diesel vs. 7.3-liter gasoline
I wrote recently about the wonderment that is the 7.3-liter V8 engine known as Godzilla. Whipple made a supercharger for this engine that made unbelievable power and performance.
But without any supercharger kits, Motor Trend pretty much proved that the F-250's diesel is better than the gasoline engine, at least on this track test. Looking at the output numbers, those seem to prove that out too.
The 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 makes 475 horses and an unbelievable 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque. The Super Duty Tremor with the diesel engine has a maximum towing capacity of 15,000 pounds for conventional trailers and up to 21,900 pounds for gooseneck trailers.
The 7.3-liter V8 engine has an output of 430 horsepower and only 475 lb.-ft. of torque. It also has the same the maximum towing capacity.
Integrated Winch by Ford Performance available for F-250 Tremor
The new Ford Performance Parts winch by Warn comes with 12,000 pounds of winching power and will be available as a factory-orderable option or dealer-installed after-sale accessory for both gas and diesel-powered Super Duty Tremor pickups.
“We developed this unique winch in cooperation with Warn specifically to meet Built Ford Tough truck standards for our new F-Series Super Duty,” said Ron Meredith, Ford truck vehicle personalization planning manager. “Having a winch specially designed to our Built Ford Tough standards gives our hard-working Super Duty customers yet another tool to extend this truck’s capabilities whether at work or on the trail.”
The Ford Performance Parts winch by Warn will be available starting in mid-2020 for $3,000 MSRP.
The F-250 Super Duty Tremor is quite an impressive truck. It is that rare blend of ample performance, off-road ability and maximum towing ability. The fact that the Tremor package is available as either a gasoline or a diesel adds appeal. The Tremor Off-Road Package is available for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks.
