Chevrolet

With a lineup that includes some of the bestselling cars, trucks and SUVs sold in America, Chevrolet is routinely one of the bestselling brands in the US market. A refresh to the Camaro and Malibu along with new versions of the Corvette, Silverado and Impala join forces with the likes of the Volt and the Spark EV to offer an incredible range of performance cars and super efficient models in the same showroom.

For the 4th straight month and the 5th time this year, there were more Chevrolet Camaro models sold than any other sports car in America – comfortably crushing both the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger while also building the lead in the annual sales race.

While the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will likely prove to be the performance leader in the American supercar segment, adding a bit more power to the Corvette Stingray in the near future could allow the far less expensive Chevy sports car to knock off the mighty Dodge Viper in almost any performance venue.

General Motors could be facing more problems as it has been revealed that the company knew about the Chevrolet Camaro adjustable seat problem in 2013, but they opted not to address the problem – even after a GM test engineer experienced the problem firsthand in a Buick Regal.

Even though the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the most powerful “base” Corvette of all time, there come times when you just need a whole lot more power and thanks to the full lineup of high performance packages, the folks at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering can satisfy the need for speed of almost any driver.

When General Motors announced that they were recalling every single 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro, it created quite the stir in the Camaro community as owners rejected the idea of trading in their switchblade key for a boring individual key and fob combo – but I have learned that Camaro owners can opt out of the key replacement recall by signing a simple form.

General Motors has issued yet another recall for the Chevrolet Camaro, this time recalling 2011 and 2012 models with the power adjustable front seats over a concern that the height setting feature could fail and allow the seat to move up and down freely – a problem which impacts more than just the Camaro.

The pricing for much of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette lineup has been offered up by General Motors and while some prices remain the same or drop a bit, those numbers are overshadowed by a collection of pricing increases – although new standard features actually make the 2015 Stingray a better bargain across the board.

The 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise will introduce attendees to the newest model specific show area as the new Camaro Corral is introduced to rival Mustang Alley; with the Chevrolet sponsored area offering space for 150 Camaros at this year’s world renown rolling car show.

Since the news hit that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat would pack 707 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque, the discussion over how the Chevrolet Camaro would battle back has been a hot topic but with the success of the Corvette Stingray and the breathtaking performance of the upcoming Z06 – maybe GM won’t bother building a Hellcat-killing Camaro after all.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will come with a “build your own engine” option similar to the C6 Z06 and ZR1, but a new report indicates that not all C7 Z06 buyers will have the option of paying to build their own 650 horsepower supercharged V8.

After being named the Most Valuable Player for the 2014 Major League Baseball All Star Game, Angels’ slugger Mike Trout took home a brand new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible – picking the sleek sports car over a brand new Chevrolet Silverado pickup while also signing the hood of a second Corvette to be auctioned off.

General Motors has done a very good job of keeping the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro completely hidden from the prying eye of spy photographers over the past few months, but the first batch of spyshots have surfaced online – showing a heavily camouflaged car that looks far more like a refreshed current Camaro than a radical redesign.

The folks at Saleen Performance are best known for tuning the Ford Mustang, but they also have a variety of high performance packages for the Chevrolet Camaro and one of their retailers recently posted a video and eBay listing online with a price of $101,255 – which is a crazy high price for this 575 horsepower GM muscle car.

Everyone seems to be holding out for the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, the model year due for a significant redesign. Yet even the unheralded 2015 model has received an unexpected improvement.

Back when we only knew that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 would have “at least” 625hp and 635lb-ft of torque, GM brass stated that it would be priced similarly to the C6 Z06, but with the C7 Z06 likely beating the previous Corvette ZR1 in every day – I really have to question the idea of the new Z06 costing as much as the old Z06.

The folks at Callaway have announced the official specs for their 2014/2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray package and for around $23,000, the Callaway Corvette packs an incredible 627 horsepower and 610lb-ft of torque – coming in a touch under the Z06 in power while likely costing far less.

General Motors recently announced a recall of every 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro to replace the switchblade style key fob, but in reading all over the internet and in speaking with some Camaro owners it is very clear that many owners want to keep their key fobs – even if they go through with the recall repairs.

When the 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro debuts for the 2016 model year, General Motors will have their work cut out for them to have a muscle car that will compete with the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat – and it is questionable whether GM will try at all since they probably wont want to trump the Corvette Z06.

Sales figures for the Chevrolet Corvette dipped just a bit through June 2014, but GM still moved enough C7 Stingray coupes and convertibles to outsell the SRT Viper by almost 7000% - allowing the Corvette to very comfortably dominate the American high dollar performance car market while the Viper struggles.

Since we began talking about the 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro coming for the 2016 model year, it has been expected that it would look like a revised version of the 5th generation models, but a new rumor indicates that it could undergo a more substantial exterior refresh that could have styling more similar to that of the second generation Camaro.

When the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was introduced, GM said that there were no plans for a ZR1 since the new Z06 was the fastest Vette ever, but with the introduction of the new Hellcat Hemi-powered Dodge Challenger, GM will need a new ZR1 to pull ahead in the ongoing horsepower war.

A while back I did a piece discussing the fact that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat wouldn’t beat the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and now that the Chrysler Group has announced the shocking power figures for the supercharged Hellcat Hemi – it only seems proper to revisit the battle between the two American monsters.

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06-based C7.R race car was introduced for the 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship and while the teams got off to a rough start in the first two events of the season – the #3 Corvette C7.R has claimed the GT LeMans class win in each of the past three races.

For the third straight month, the Chevrolet Camaro beat the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger in monthly sales, with the small advantage in June 2014 allowing the Camaro to build its annual lead as GM strives for a stunning 5th straight yearly muscle car sales title.

The seemingly endless stream of General Motors recalls has brought about a notice for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray over a concern that the rear shock absorbers could crack and fail altogether – or simply reduce the life of the suspension components – so the company is getting these sports cars back to the dealerships for repairs.

Back in late 2013, we talked about a quote from Chevrolet Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser that there would not be a 4-cylinder option in the 2016 Camaro, but new rumors from around the automotive media suggest that the company might actually offer a turbocharger 4-cylinder similar to the 2.3L EcoBoost that will power the 2015 Ford Mustang.

The supercharged LT4 V8 that will motivate the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be most powerful production engine from GM ever and unlike the previous generation super-Vette engines – the new LT4 will be built both at the Bowling Green Corvette plant and at the Tonawanda engine facility in New York.
