Nevada grants Audi the first automaker permit to operate autonomous vehicles on public roads

They sent out this press release .. so will focus on their announcement, while referring to Don's article from yesterday.

BTW Don, that picture you posted shows the Google self-driving kit. There'd been reports here in Silicon Valley for years before Google went public, of these cars with weird stuff on the roof. First time I saw it I thought it was a Google Street View car, but no the Street View equipment kit is different.

College kids will learn what cars are autonoumous and will wait for the car to come with a latte sipping occupant and will jump in front to make it stop and splil the coffee. And other shenanigans. Also, why the hell would I ever yield at an intersection (like a rotary) to an autonomous car I know will jam its brakes on rather than hit me? And then not chase me with a gun. Fun.

Or when they start critiquing your choice in music or refusing to turn into the drive-thru because "you've gained three pounds since you were sitting there last" or pull over and call the cops on you for doing something illegal.. Or blackmail you with threats posting to YouTube when you have sex in the back seat.. Or worse, give a critique of your performance..

And what happens when they break? "Your door is ajar.. your door is ajar.. your door is ajar.. the speed limit is 88 miles per hour, sir.. 88 miles per hour.. 88 miles.. ONE POINT TWENTY-ONE GIGAWATTS!"
