I once headed up a fundraising campaign to get a bunch of work trucks down to the San Andreas and run a line of jackhammers along it to "help it." No offense, but it was quite popular (though not very good at actually raising money) in Utah where I was living at the time.
Utah, by the way, has a tax rate that's getting close to California's. They're just more subtle about it.
