According to the Automotive News, Chrysler Chief Marketing Officer Oliver Francois stated that the next phase of the “Imported from Detroit” marketing campaign would include the addition of two Detroit-themed trimlines including the Chrysler 200 8 Mile and the Chrysler 300 Motown. Unfortunately, no information as to what will make these new trimlines unique were offered as part of the discussion with Francois but if I had to guess, we can expect things like heated leather seats and a heated leather steering wheel, a premium sound system and either piano black or dark chrome trim inside and out rather than bright polished chrome.
The Chrysler 200 8 Mile will show the automakers connection to the Motor City by celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the blockbuster movie 8 Mile, which featured local rap star Marshall Mathers (aka Eminem) – the same guy behind the original Imported from Detroit television commercial that was launched during Super Bowl XLV in 2011. In case you are wondering, I also found it a little odd that Chrysler has made a trimline to celebrate the movie 8 Mile but considering that they got “Mr I don’t do commercials” Eminem to do a commercial – and a super high profile Super Bowl commercial at that – perhaps this was part of the deal to get the hip hop superstar in that 2011 TV spot.
The Chrysler 300 Motown will be released in conjunction with the new Broadway production “Motown: The Musical”. Nothing is known about this package right now but Francois confirmed that they have already shot a commercial for the new Detroit themed trimline so it may not be long before we know more about this new 300 sedan trimline.
Report indicate that the Chrysler 200 8 Mile and the Chrysler 300 Motown were both in attendance at the recent Chrysler Group dealer convention in Las Vegas so we can expect to see these new models arrive in the next few months – presumably at the 2013 North American International Auto Show at Detroit’s Cobo Hall. They could also debut it beforehand in LA or afterwards in New York or Chicago but it wouldn’t seem to make much sense to debut a set of trimlines intended to pay homage to the Motor City in some other city.

The Chrysler 300 Motown will join two other new trimlines for the Chrysler flagship sedan including the 300C John Varvatos edition and the new 300 Glacier. The 300 Glacier is an all wheel drive package fitted with an active transfer case and front axle disconnect system to allow for both rear and all wheel drive driving. This allows for supreme traction in rough weather with the advanced all wheel drive system with rear wheel drive in clearly conditions for better fuel economy measures. We would expect that the 300 Glacier would also come with all sorts of features that make a big different in cold climates including a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, an advanced dual zone automatic climate system and a remote start system. The 300 Glacier is scheduled to arrive in cold weather climates like Denver Colorado. The Chrysler 300C John Varvatos is a high end luxury model with premium leather, matte wooden finishes and lots of chrome inside and out – named after Detroit born men’s clothing designer.
