Yesterday we talked about the rumors that the Hellcat Hemi that will power the next generation Dodge Challenger SRT would debut at this weekend’s big Chrysler Group LX model enthusiast event in Irvine California. That information was relayed to the folks at Allpar by an unnamed inside source and it was supported by your average internet rumors that suggested that same thing. Unfortunately, new insider information insists that neither the next generation Dodge Challenger nor the new Hellcat Hemi will debut at this weekend’s Dodge Charger, Challenger, Magnum and Chrysler 300 event in SoCal.
I should stress that none of the information about the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Hemi debut is official in any way, shape or form. The insiders who provide the media with this privileged information is often right, but sometimes they are only relaying what they have heard from someone else so all of this unofficial information should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, there have been insider reports that the Hellcat Hemi Challenger will debut this Saturday while others claim that it will not. The safe bet is to expect that the Hellcat Hemi will not be introduced at a fairly private event that began is a local club meet and greet – but stranger things have happened in the past. With that in mind, I will keep my fingers crossed that the attendees at the 2014 LX Spring Festival do get to see something special from the Chrysler Group as that would be our first official information on the future of the Hemi and the Dodge Challenger.
Should the Hellcat Hemi, the next generation Dodge Challenger or some other Mopar muscle car tidbit make a debut this weekend in Irvine California, the attention of the Mopar Performance world will turn its gaze to the 2014 New York International Auto Show – at which point we will almost certainly see something exciting from the Street and Racing Technology branch of the Chrysler Group.
SRT boss Ralph Gilles stated at last year’s Big Apple show that we would see something special at the 2014 New York Auto Show and if I were a betting man – I would guess that something special will be the lightly refreshed next generation Dodge Challenger with the 6.2L supercharged Hellcat Hemi under the hood. In the meantime, should any other fun rumors come up – such as the next generation Viper being introduced at a minor league hockey game or an SRT Ram being unveiled at a little league soccer game – we will bring it to you here…just in case.
