Rally Team Finds BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A Tires Offer an Edge

One New England-based rally team has found that street-legal Trail Terrain tires from BFGoodrich offer many advantages.

Daniel Hayes is the principal at Lost by Choice Motorsports. Dan offers his thought on how the Trail Terrain T/A tire by BFGoodrich enhances his chances at winning. Perhaps these tires might be a good match to your overlanding or off-roading adventure vehicle?

TN - How important are tires to your rallying?
DH - Tires, much like in almost aspect of racing and daily driving are key to rally. Not only do traditional rally cars have specific tires equipped to handle the rigors of rally, but most Recce vehicles are similar equipped to handle the two days Recce that most ARA events require. Tires are fundamental to rallying and win or lose stages.

DHThe BF Goodrich Trail Terrain, an over-the-counter tire, has performed tasks that even top-level competitors question. This past rally, Overmountain Rally Tennessee, was incredibly intense and strenuous on tires, especially since even top-level competitors were depending on bespoke rally tires. These Trail Terrains have handled everything that ARA could throw at them and remained glued to the stage and completely intact all season.

TN- What is your go-to tire choice for your rally activities?
DH - Everyone says we should be on rally tires; however, due to the size of our brake rotors, we are limited to 18" wheels and thus 18" tires. In the past I have trusted BF Goodrich for their KO2 application and HD version on our daily Ford Ranger. So naturally when it came to needing a tire that met a specific size requirement I knew where to look. It just so happened that BF had an appropriate size which has performed flawlessly ever since.

TN- How do these tires differ? How do they give you an edge if you will?
DH - For rally - we are outside of the norm and I can not think of any other competitor running non rally tires. However, we have found that not to be a hindrance at all. In fact almost the opposite, Trail Terrains are readily available and attractively priced, and as I have stated before performed well above what I am sure engineers were designing them for.

TN- Do you also use Michelin/BFG/Uniroyal products on your personal vehicles?
DH - Yes, we do!

Our thanks to Dan for sharing his input on how BFGoodrich tires have helped his rally team achieve victory.
