Does the 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Outback, 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 Ascent, 2023 Solterra EV, and other new models the automaker offers have new technology customers want? The J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study reveals Subaru dropped two spots in their latest findings.
Last year, Subaru was among the top three car brands. In the 2023 J.D. Power study, Subaru slipped in, offering technology customers appreciate and want on their next vehicle, but is still among the top five car brands.

Subaru ranks fifth among mainstream brands in the recent J.D. Power Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study. Hyundai scores number one with a score of 547, Kia number two (528), GMC (505), Ram (483), Subaru (481), Chevrolet (480), Nissan (466), Buick (462), Ford (462), and Toyota round out the top ten best car brands.
The J.D. Power TXI technology innovation study is in its eighth year and focuses on the user experience with advanced vehicle technology as it first comes to market. It is an early measure of problems encountered by vehicle owners, says Power. The top brands and vehicles offer the best user experience for customers.

The 2023 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study is based on responses from 82,472 owners of new 2023 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study was fielded from February through May 2023.
Last year, the 2022 Subaru Ascent received an individual model award. The Smart Rearview Mirror on the 2022 Subaru Ascent earned the highest Execution Index score among owners in the mass market segment. The camera rearview mirror in the 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered on upper trim levels.

In the 2023 TXI study, no Subaru models received an individual model award in this year’s tech study.
“Innovation through a strong advanced tech strategy is crucial for all vehicle manufacturers, especially those working to build their reputation in the electric vehicle space,” said Kathleen Rizk, senior director of user experience benchmarking and technology at J.D. Power.
“The perception in the industry is that most BEVs should offer many advanced technologies to compete with high-tech entrants like Tesla. Success will depend on those manufacturers that can execute flawlessly while ensuring the user experience is the same for tech-savvy customers and those who are not,” says Rizk.
According to the 2023 J.D. Power Tech Experience Study, Subaru is one of the top five mainstream brands delivering excellence in executing its new technology features. Subaru scores the number five automaker with customers saying the 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Outback, 2024 Crosstrek, 2023 Ascent, 2023 Solterra EV, and other models offer new vehicle technology they want and use.
