The Subaru WRX sports car is making headlines again, but not the kind of news Subaru of America wants. The performance model is one of the ten car models on the most DUIs list. Insurify released the list recently, and the Subaru WRX is sixth on the top 10 unpopular list again.
The most recent Insurify report says a high percentage of WRX drivers report one or more DUIs on their record. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly one in five people killed in alcohol-related accidents involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) under the legal limit of 0.08. So driving with a lower BAC can also be deadly.

The ten car models with the most DUIs
The RAM 2500 has the most DUIs, followed by the Chevrolet S-10, BMW 4-Series, Audi A4, Dodge Dakota, Subaru WRX, BMW 7-Series, Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra.
Where is the Subaru WRX STI? Insurify does not differentiate between the two hot sports cars, and the performance-tuned WRX STI is included along with the sport-tuned WRX.

Across all car makes and models, 17.9 in every 1,000 drivers have one or more DUI citations on their record. Subaru WRX/STI drivers with a DUI citation are among the worst, with 30.0 per 1,000.
More bad news for the Subaru WRX
Insurify says, "In general, the Subaru WRX attracts ill-behaved drivers. Not only are WRX drivers prone to dangerously mixing drinking and driving, but they're also the worst speeders in the nation, the fourth-rudest, and the third-most likely to cause an accident (likely due to their risky behavior on the roads), according to prior studies by Insurify. It's probably safest to give the Subaru WRX a wide berth on the roads."
It's not the first time the Subaru WRX and STI have made the top ten list. In 2020, the performance vehicles were also among the top ten models.
Car models with the fewest drunk drivers
Insurify also lists the car models whose drivers have the lowest proportion of DUIs. The top three cars with the least DUIs are the Toyota RAV4, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Toyota Sienna, all of which have only 0.61, 0.65, and 0.69 percent of drivers with a DUI citation on their record, respectively.
The 2022 Subaru WRX is milder than the higher-horsepower WRX STI. The sport-tuned 2022 Subaru WRX comes with 271 horsepower, and the 2021 Subaru WRX STI has 310 horsepower. You won't find many older WRX and STI models that have not been modified and have considerably more horsepower.
With the STI discontinued for the 2022 model year and fewer new STI models on the road, it will be interesting to see if the DUI rate drops for the WRX and STI in upcoming studies. For now, the Subaru WRX and WRX STI are among the top 10 cars with the most DUIs again.
