Maybe you aren’t ready to pull the trigger and buy a new all-electric vehicle or a hybrid car just yet Or with the vehicle shortages you can't find the model you want. It’s still an excellent time to buy a gas model while waiting because fuel efficiency is up on small SUVs. And if you need an all-wheel-drive vehicle, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is still the number one most fuel-efficient small SUV, according to the latest Consumer Reports study.
Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek fuel-efficient?
You can have an all-wheel-drive SUV and still get good fuel efficiency. The Subaru Crosstrek uses direct injection on its new 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine and gets 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The 2.0-liter engine gets 28/33 mpg and 30 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic, contributing to better mileage.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek hybrid gets even better fuel mileage. In Consumer Reports testing, the plug-in hybrid gets 38/45 city/highway MPGe and 42 combined MPGe. Note that the Crosstrek Hybrid is not available in all states.
The 12 Most Fuel-Efficient SUVs
Consumer Reports says the twelve most fuel-efficient small SUVs are the Lexus UX, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Venza, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, Toyota Highlander, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 Prime, Subaru Crosstrek, Hyundai Santa Fe, Lexus RX, and Lexus NX.
All 2021 Subaru Crosstrek trim levels, including the hybrid, come standard with all-wheel-drive when other vehicles come with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive is a more expensive option.
What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?
The 2021 Crosstrek subcompact SUV comes in five trim levels for customers and gets a small price increase. The base trim is priced from $23,295, Premium ($24,345), all-new Sport ($27,545), Limited ($29,045), Hybrid ($36,395). Prices include destination and delivery ($1,050).
