The 3 New Highly Anticipated Redesigned Subaru Models And What's Next

You've seen the redesigned 2025 Subaru Forester I've reported on. Next, three more redesigned 2025 model-year vehicles are coming from Subaru. Subaru of Indiana Automotive makes all three at its U.S. plant in Lafayette, Indiana. They are the 2025 Outback midsize SUV, 2025 Legacy midsize sedan, and 2025 Ascent 3-Row family hauler. 

Here are the three all-wheel-drive vehicles and what customers can expect when they arrive. 

2025 Subaru Outback

Subaru of America will announce the remodeled 2025 Subaru Outback next, which could be coming soon. It's the most anticipated redesign of the three models. The Outback is the Camden, N.J. automaker's best-selling model, and they want to get it right.

The next-generation 2025 Outback will get significant upgrades from the 2024 model year. Here is what I know so far. I have reported earlier that the all-new Outback for the 2025 model year will come with new exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and upgraded safety features. But there's more. 

The newly redesigned Outback will get hybrid power.

Planet Subaru says, "To meet ever-more-demanding emissions regulations, however, we wouldn't be surprised to see Subaru lean on its engineering partner Toyota to offer a hybrid engine option (in the next-generation 2025 Outback) similar to the Crosstrek Hybrid powertrain."

An Outback Hybrid is speculation on my part, as Subaru is always tight-lipped about future product plans, and the automaker has made no announcements about the 2025 Outback. I think the Outback Hybrid will significantly improve hybrid technology over the discontinued Crosstrek Hybrid.

The Crosstrek hybrid model, sold in North America, only had 17 miles of all-electric range, and it was too expensive for Crosstrek buyers. The fuel savings needed to be more to justify customers paying an additional $12,050 more than the top-selling 2023 Crosstrek Premium trim.

I expect the redesigned 2025 Outback to be announced this fall. Stay tuned. 

2025 Subaru Legacy

Like the Outback, the 2025 Legacy midsize sedan will be completely redesigned. The Legacy and Outback share the same platform and many of the same parts. Whatever Subaru does to the Outback, the Legacy will get identical changes in its infotainment, drivetrain, and safety technology. 

2025 Subaru Ascent

According to a new report from Automotive News (by subscription), the Subaru Ascent is expected to be redesigned in the second half of 2024. As I have said in previous stories on the 3-Row SUV, the Ascent needs something to excite customers.

Will Subaru bring a new outdoor-themed Ascent Wilderness Edition or Ascent Hybrid trim level? Those two trim levels would make the most significant difference in the next-generation Ascent family hauler. Stay tuned.
