What are the best adventure vehicles of 2021? GearJunkie drove "A slew of vehicles" and says the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness is the best wagon and calls it the "Swiss Army knife of cars." They don't explain why, so we will give out reasons why it does so many things well.
The 2022 Outback Wilderness was one of Subaru's most anticipated new launches. It didn't disappoint outdoor enthusiasts who use their vehicle for more than a grocery hauler on the weekends.
While most SUV owners never take their vehicles off-road, Subaru's active customers use their all-wheel-drive Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek to go further into the high country.
It's why Subaru of America asked Subaru Corporation for a Wilderness sub-brand for adventure seekers looking for SUVs to get further away from civilization. Customers use the Outback Wilderness to go hiking, mountain biking, camping, kayaking, and snowboarding.

What sets the Outback Wilderness apart from other SUVs, crossovers, and wagons?
The 2022 Outback Wilderness all-wheel-drive system is set apart from the pack and will get you deep off-road.
The new rugged Outback Wilderness comes with a new advanced X-Mode that allows the SUV/wagon to switch automatically from low-speed managed driving to speeds over 25 mph without interruption of power or performance. The X-Mode display also features a new roll-angle indicator to help the driver navigate off-road terrain.
Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive in the 2022 Subaru Forester, 2022 Outback, 2021 Crosstrek, and 2022 Ascent is a core value on all its models. The automaker introduced the 2022 Forester Wilderness and 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness, taking it to another level of off-road ability.
GearJunkie says, "This new off-road-oriented edition gets you a lift, a skid plate, more aggressive dirt-worthy tires (along with a full-size spare), and more. It also gets more plastic body cladding, fully synthetic and waterproof upholstery, and rooftop tent-rated roof rails."
Why does the Outback Wilderness do so many things well? During the week, the Outback Wilderness makes a good commuter with its 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. It's fuel-efficient, has the utility of an SUV, has 9.4-inches of ground clearance, and handles like a car in the city.
What is the fuel mileage of the 2022 Outback Wilderness?
The EPA says the new 2022 Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 22/26 city/highway mpg and 24 combined mpg.
What is the price of the 2022 Outback and Wilderness trim?
The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $27,845, Premium ($30,270), Limited ($34,720), Touring ($38,620), Onyx Edition XT ($36,270), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,120), Limited XT ($39,120), and Touring XT ($41,070).
