According to Cars.com, the 2015 BMW M4 is the best performance coupe on the planet. It beats Cadillac ATS-V and Lexus RC F in a head-to-head competition. In their Luxury Performance Coupe Challenge, Cars.com took all three performance coupes and put them through some performance tests on the street and track. They also had a consumer test all three luxury coupes.
What did the test include?
Cars.com put the three performance coupes through a week of testing that included real-world tests, track testing and testing by an actual consumer who was in the market to buy.
Here’s how the BMW M4 beat the Cadillac ATS-V and Lexus RC F. The editors drove the performance coupes on a 160 plus mile drive on a mixture of roads to determine real-world mpg. BMW M4 came out on top.
There was also a round-robin test where the Cars.com experts drove each car back-to-back on the same course to evaluate ride, handling, comfort and acceleration. There was also 0-60 mph sprint times, quarter-mile times, top speed testing and 60-to-zero-mph braking distance tests. This was all done on a closed circuit track. They also spent a full day on a closed road course to determine which coupe had the best handling. BMW M4 came out on top in all the testing done by Cars.com.
Finally, the tests included an actual consumer who was in the market ready to buy a performance coupe. Patrick Olsen, Cars.com Editor-in-Chief said, "The BMW M4 delivers all the go-fast goods any enthusiast should expect. Right off the bat, it feels like a race car that can perform on the track but also act as a fun-to-drive, everyday car."
Cars.com said their goal with this challenge was to test three of the top performance coupes against each other on the street and on the track to find out which one came out on top. According to Cars.com, the best luxury performance coupe on the planet is the 2015 BMW M4, an established contender, while the Cadillac ATS-V and Lexus RC F are all-new models. There ist nothing new here. Like some others they say also that the BMW ist the best. We here it every day. Nevertheless, i've also seen some teste/testers who say the RCF is a better car for real life. I can't judge the Cadillac because we dont have it here in Europe.
I remember when the Lexus ISF was around and the M3. Some testers and sites told that the ISF is a very hard car and Lexus should test it more in the street in real conditions and not mostly in race track. At the same time they told that the M3 is better for everyday driving because is more comfortable and less punishing in real roads and highways, then the M3 is much better than the ISF. Now they say the M4 is very hardcore, more track oriented and a hard and the RCF is more for every day driving than the M4, then the M4 is much better !!!!!??!! I tried both RCF and M4. Honestly both are excellent and if you buy a car to be systematically nervous and exited, go to the track once per week and it doesn't matter for you that your car will punisch you when you drive in some Autobahns or cities who have not perfect asphalt, then M4 is your car. If you want to have a very fast car, Very very stable at high speed, very easy to drive very fast and at the same time having the possibility to relaxe with a real pleasure to drive when you go in Autobahn to your work or comeback, the the RCF is your car.
What is interesting is when you read this kind of tests or testers, they give you the impression that the Lexus RCF is a P.O.S and the BMW M4 is the best car in the world until you take one to test drive yourself. I really after reading those tests thougt so and then before ordering any of them i've tested them and then i asked myself why testers make such huge exaggerations???!!!
So if you buy the M4 have you bought the best car in the world?
If you buy the RCF have you lost your money and bought a P.O.S as some try to say(between the lines)?
My very humble opinion after trying lot of BMW's and Lexus's and recently M4 and RCF is: There is a huge propaganda. Try yourself and decide which one suits better your expectations and your philosophy.
Again i have no idea how the Cadillac is but i imagine that its a great car.

Let's face it: the German car enthusiasts (and enthusiast editors) can cope with the fact the out of the gate Lexus launched an awesome car. I agree a lot with what Mike has posted above. The cars are EQUALLY matched. For me, the RCF was the way to go.

If you actually read the comparo, they gave the BMW extra points for "being a BMW". The Cadillac is the better driver's car hands down. The Lexus is a piece of crap btw, it doesn't belong in the same zip code as the Caddy or the Bimmer. The Cadillac / BMW rivalry is creating some awesome cars for all to drive.
