Subaru of America revealed new images of the 2023 Solterra all-electric compact SUV. It gets contemporary exterior styling that will set it apart from the Forester compact SUV. The front and rear have a new look, and the interior will feature modern styling with a new center tablet touchscreen.
The 2023 Subaru Solterra rides on the e-Subaru Global Platform, with standard all-wheel-drive and "state-of-the-art" safety technology. Subaru says its legendary all-wheel-drive engineering will give the new all-electric Solterra all-weather, all-road performance.
The Subaru Solterra will have extra ground clearance making it ready for outdoor adventures. Subaru says the EV will be the most technologically advanced Subaru yet. "Solterra is quiet, spacious, and comfortable, equipped with all the cabin technology you need for a modern SUV," Subaru said in the announcement today.
Subaru and Toyota collaborated on the new EV SUV for its powertrain development. The new Solterra will get a wide stance, futuristic styling and will be distinctly Subaru. Subaru says its goal is to be better suited for developing new electric technology, software, and communications.
Recent reports say the new Solterra and Toyota bZ4X will be manufactured at the Toyota factory in Japan and not the Subaru Gunma, Japan plant. Subaru has not confirmed further model details, but initial reports say the Solterra will have an electric vehicle range of 300 miles.
Subaru's core values of Adventure, All-Wheel-Drive Utility, Safety, Reliability and Longevity, and Capability will be part of the new Solterra EV. Subaru says, "We will further enhance this deep relationship between Subaru and our customers that makes us different from other brands."
Subaru announced new organizational changes last month that will further promote electrification. While Subaru is taking a slow approach, the 2023 Subaru Solterra EV SUV is the first step in developing an all-electric lineup. The all-new 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric compact SUV is scheduled to go on sale in 2022. Stay tuned.
