Do you like white? Canada is getting 75 examples of the newly-announced 2020 WRX STI Kanrai Edition in Ceramic White exterior paint so it’s definitely exclusive. What else sets it apart from the STI Sport-tech and why would you want one? This is the same WRX STI Series.White model Subaru of America announced last year for U.S. performance fans.
The STI Kanrai gets a few extra goodies not available on the WRX STI Sport-Tech. It gets bronze-painted 19-inch BBS forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, a Bilstein STI sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty steering rack mounts, Monoblock Brembo brake calipers (6-piston front, 2-piston rear), and a silver finish with black STI logo. In place of a temporary spare tire, the WRX STI Kanrai receives a tire repair kit to reduce weight.

Subaru didn’t say what changes will be coming inside, so we assume it’s the same interior as the Sport-Tech version with 8-way power Recaro driver's seat with leather accents and Ultrasuede seats. Outside it gets Crystal Black Silica foldable exterior mirrors and side badging, new matte black rear badging and a restyled mesh grille with STI badge and cherry blossom red accent. You can fly under the radar with its black low-profile trunk lip spoiler.
The STI Kanrai doesn’t get any upgrades under the hood and keeps the 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine with 310 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, so it doesn’t bring more offensive power for performance enthusiasts. Like all STIs, it comes mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
If you like white, this is the STI model for you. It gets a few new black and red exterior accents to set it apart from the standard Crystal White Pearl exterior color. Subaru Canada won’t be offering performance fans the same version Kanrai Edition for the 2020 WRX.

How much extra is the 2020 Subaru WRX STI Kanrai Edition? It’s priced at $50,395, a $3,000 price increase over the STI Sport-tech. Price does not include $2,029 for delivery and other fees. Subaru says the new STI will arrive at dealers this spring.

Talk about a sleeper. This beast will surprise many stoplight racers, and canyon runners. I like it's understated looks. It reminds me of the Mitsubishi EVO MR from a few years ago that was an impressive stealth warrior.
