Mercedes-Benz put a high priority on safety and the new 2015 C-Class proves the German automakers commitment to producing safe cars. Mercedes has been been doing this for decades and the new C-Class comes with a number of groundbreaking safety innovations.
Mercedes-Benz is on a mission to improve vehicle safety and reduce traffic accidents around the globe. The new global 2015 C-Class will feature the latest Mercedes technology when it makes its dealer launch here in the U.S. next month. The German automaker is consistently pursuing this strategy with the C-Class, which has numerous new assistance systems and significantly extended functions.
Assistance systems are never distracted and never get tired
Mercedes enlisted the help of F1 driver Michael Schumacher last year during the testing stages of their new safety system called Intelligent Drive. Schumacher says, "Nobody is able to give 100% concentration all the time over a longer period to cope with the car and traffic situation. Sometimes just a moment of inattention is enough. And that is precisely why I support intelligent assistance systems for passenger cars. Assistance systems are never distracted and never get tired. Assistance systems have no delay for reaction time. They can save lives."
Intelligent Drive comes standard on the 2015 C-Class. Its a suite of interconnected systems like Attention Assist, Adaptive Brake Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus and more. These systems are able to keep a 360 degree eye on the road even when the driver doesn’t. One of the most common things all drivers experience during a long trip is driver fatigue.
Keeping an eye on you
The new C-Class comes with an early warning for driver drowsiness. An industry first, Attention Assist takes note of over 70 parameters in the first minutes of a drive to get to know your unique driving style. As your journey continues, it can detect certain steering corrections that suggest the onset of drowsiness. It then considers a wide array of other factors, from crosswinds and road smoothness to how often you're interacting with the vehicle's controls and switches. If it detects driver fatigue, this safety system sounds an alert encouraging you to stop for a rest.
C-Class continually monitors traffic
Collision Prevention Assist Plus is standard on the new C-Class and uses radar to continually monitor traffic ahead. If it detects that you're approaching a slower vehicle too quickly, it alerts you to brake. It can even start braking for you, to help lessen a possible collision.
