Subaru of America (SOA) adds its fifth SUV to the all-wheel-drive lineup, the all-new electric 2023 Subaru Solterra compact SUV. Solterra joins the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, Forester, and Ascent all-wheel-drive SUVs. SOA reports they delivered their first 94 Solterra models to U.S. customers in November.
Subaru of America reported an impressive increase in sales last month, with a 51.7 percent increase compared with November 2021. "This month, we exceeded November 2021 sales by a wide margin, and we had our first customer deliveries of our all-new EV, Solterra," said Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales.
Customers were supposed to take delivery of the first 2023 Subaru Solterra EV models in June. Still, the retailer launch was delayed because of a potential problem that would cause the wheels of the Subaru Solterra and Toyota's bZ4x to come off. Toyota finally found a solution in October.
How successful will the new Solterra be?
The global shift to electric vehicles is in full force, and the new Soltarra all-electric compact SUV arrives just in time. Subaru was late arriving to the EV party, but they now have the new all-wheel-drive electric SUV that desperately needed to compete with the large automakers.
Subaru of America will sell every one of the 2023 Solterra models they can get. Subaru Corporation will produce less than 7,000 Solterra models for the entire calendar year 2022. Seeking Alpha says Subaru will produce 6,500 Solterra EVs in 2022. Subaru of America has already sold its initial allotment of Solterra EVs to U.S. customers.
Customers who order a new Solterra EV now will likely get the 2024 Solterra models that will be delivered next year. Subaru will make few changes to the 2024 model year only in its second year of production. But there will be a price increase.
What is the price of the Solterra?
The 2023 Solterra is offered in Premium, Limited, and Touring. Pricing for the Solterra Premium trim level starts at $46,220. The Limited trim carries a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49,720. The top-of-the-line Touring trim is priced at $53,220. Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,225). Subaru says US retailers set the actual price and may charge more.
The 2024 Subaru Solterra EV will be a hot new SUV for Subaru of America, and they will sell as many as they can get from Subaru Corporation. The Japanese automaker doesn't control the production of the new Solterra, as Toyota manufactures it.
The 2023 Subaru Solterra arrives just in time for the Holiday season, and Subaru of America will sell even more in December as more new models come from Japan. The all-wheel-drive Solterra will be a big success this winter. Check out the winter driving report below and see how it performs in deep snow.
