The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV and all-new next-generation 2022 Subaru WRX sport-tuned sedan don’t appear on the latest 2022 model Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) list for Subaru. The refreshed Forester and new Subaru WRX have not been tested by the IIHS and don’t have results yet.
Both models were not available for the new round of IIHS testing. The Forester and WRX are manufactured in the Gunma, Japan factory that’s been hit hard with microchip shortages and supply chain issues. The 2022 Forester compact SUV has arrived in the U.S. and should be tested soon. The 2022 WRX performance sedan won’t arrive until this spring.
When the two new Subaru models are tested, they will score high. In last year’s scores, the 2021 Forester earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ winner, and the 2021 WRX earned a Top Safety Pick score.
The Forester and WRX have been the top in safety performance. The Forester has been a Top Safety Pick+ winner for fifteen consecutive years, and the WRX with EyeSight and specific headlights has been a Top Safety Pick winner for eight straight years.
For the 2022 model year change, both vehicles will get new safety upgrades
The 2022 Forester and 2022 WRX will be equipped with the next generation Eyesight driver-assist safety technology. The new fourth generation of Subaru EyeSight now features enhanced software, a widened field of view, and the addition of an electric brake booster to improve brake performance in sudden stops.
The next-generation EyeSight technology offers 360-degree sensing by combining the front and rear radars, and the new EyeSight X uses 3D high-precision map data with road information for each lane. Subaru aims for zero traffic fatalities by 2030 with the new system. You can check out the complete report here.
In the latest 2022 model testing, the 2022 Subaru Outback, 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid, 2022 Ascent, and 2022 Legacy earn the highest Top Safety Pick+ award. The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek and 2022 Impreza earn Top Safety Pick awards.
The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV and all-new next-generation Subaru WRX sport-tuned sedan will be tested soon by the IIHS. Stay tuned to Subaru Report via Torque News for the updated safety information.
