The worst thing that can happen when you buy a new car is to be promised something and the automaker doesn’t deliver. If you would buy the same car again says the automaker’s promises were true and when expectations are met, you will love the car. If they aren’t met, you'll be sadly disappointed. Consumer Reports (by subscription) asked car buyers whether they would buy the same car again, and came up with a list of the most-loved cars.
In the compact SUV category, the 2020 Subaru Forester scores highest with its owners in the CR survey beating a number of top-selling vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, and Jeep Cherokee which are all better selling compact SUVs than Forester.
2020 Subaru Forester is loved most by owners
What does Subaru promise you if you buy it? The Japanese automaker’s website says it has a low starting price $24,495, it gets good fuel economy, 26/33 city/highway mpg, standard all-wheel-drive on all models, more passenger volume (111.9 cubic feet) than Honda, Mazda, and Toyota, and comes with standard driver safety aids (EyeSight technology).
What else does Subaru promise buyers?
Subaru says you will get a versatile, capable compact SUV with extra ground clearance for off-pavement activities (8.7-inches), plenty of cargo room (76.1 cubes), and it’s built to last.
Owners rate the Forester highest among all compact SUVs
Subaru Forester gets a 5 / 5 rating in predicted owner satisfaction from CR and says there are six reasons why. The compact SUV “delivers a combination of a roomy interior, excellent visibility, commendable fuel economy, simple controls, a comfortable ride, and responsive handling” for customers. In the road test, it gets a 90 / 100 rating.
Where does the Forester fall short?
The 2020 Subaru Forester has only one engine option, the 2.5-liter Boxer, that some say needs a bit more power. Subaru dropped the 2.0XT turbocharged engine when the Forester was redesigned for the 2019 model year. Many customers are hoping the automaker offers a more powerful turbocharged engine option in the future. CR also says Forester gets a 3 / 5 in predicted reliability.
The 2020 Subaru Forester seems to deliver on the automaker’s promises and the experiences from customers are positive. The compact SUV gets the highest owner satisfaction score in its category.
