Subaru of America still has the tightest new vehicle inventory, but more new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, Ascent, and Legacy models are coming this year. But now Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), where they manufacture the four models, says its forecast for 2023 is improved, and it will have increased production.
It's good news for customers looking for the all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV, 2024 Outback midsize SUV, Ascent 3-Row SUV, and Legacy midsize sedan. Until now, the top-selling Crosstrek has been hard to find, and customers have waited months to get a new model delivered from Japan.
But Subaru shifted production of the Crosstrek to the U.S. factory in Lafayette, Indiana, this year. And for 2023, SIA says they are now projecting an increase in output of 131,040 more vehicles over 2022.
Fiscal year production in 2022 was 209,960 vehicles produced. Fiscal year production in 2023 (projected) is 341,000 vehicles for the U.S. plant.
The U.S. is Subaru's most significant market, where they sell close to 70 percent of all cars it manufactures. Subaru Corporation says, "In prospect of a recovery, especially in its key North American market, Subaru projects consolidated global vehicle sales of 940,000 units (up 28.1 percent from 2022)."
Subaru expects shortages of parts and supply chain issues will improve, and there will be significantly more new 2024 Crosstrek and 2024 Outback SUVs produced for U.S. customers this year.
What Subaru models are made in the U.S.?
The hot Crosstrek is now made in the U.S. factory. Subaru Corporation listened and gave the factory in Indiana the go-ahead to start building the new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport, Crosstrek Limited, and Crosstrek Wilderness trim levels in the U.S. factory along with the Outback midsize SUV, Ascent 3-Row SUV, and Legacy midsize sedan.
Subaru did not reveal how many new 2024 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and new Wilderness trims will be built in the U.S., but it could be a significant number, with the Sport trim being one of the most popular trim levels. The Wilderness could be the hottest new model launch for Subaru this year.
The Impreza is no longer manufactured in the U.S. factory in Lafayette, Indiana.
All 2024 model-year Impreza hatchbacks will now be made in the Gunma, Japan factory and shipped to the U.S. from Japan. Subaru did this to make room for the 2024 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness that Subaru of Indiana Automotive now makes in the U.S. factory.
Subaru of America will have more new 2024 Crosstrek, Outback, Ascent, and Legacy models available for its U.S. customers this year. Subaru of Indiana Automotive will ramp up production in its U.S. factory this year.
