Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says, “Twice In the Last Week FSD Has Taken Me Straight Across a Double Yellow Into Oncoming Traffic”

Does Tesla have a problem with its FSD feature on the Cybertruck and other models? One owner says his Cybertruck has taken him across a double yellow line into oncoming traffic. Is this happening with other Tesla vehicles, or is it an isolated incident?

"My Cybertruck's FSD went from being the best thing that ever happened to me, relaxed, to watching it like a hawk now with my hands by the wheel."

That's what Luke Perrie says happened to him in his new Tesla Cybertruck. He posted the comment on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners Facebook page. He has only owned his CT for two months, and the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature has been working flawlessly, but now he's afraid to take his hands off the wheel.

Picture driving your new electric Cybertruck, and the FSD works fine for the first few months of owning it.  You are relaxed behind the wheel, letting it self-drive you around town. However, one day, it takes you across a double yellow line into oncoming traffic.

After the second incident within a week, the fear of taking hands off the wheel becomes a constant companion, replacing the initial relaxation.

Here is Luke's account of the incident.

He says, "My Cybertruck's FSD is being super weird lately. I'm on 2024.45.32 and FSD 13.2.7."

"I thought I saw someone post about this recently with a video for proof, but I can't find the post for my life. I've had my Tesla Cyberbeast for about two months. FSD was finally there, driving me to most places with little intervention."

"However, twice in the last week (once with a trailer on and once without) - FSD has taken me straight across a double yellow into oncoming traffic."

"Is anyone else experiencing this lately? I went from FSD, which was the best thing ever for me. I relaxed, but now I watch it like a hawk with my hands by the wheel."

Here are a few comments from Luke's post, echoing his experience.

Jaime Inda, It did it to me once. With the latest update, twice it swerved into the median to avoid paint spots on the road it's driven over hundreds of times before.

Onur Oral, No, but it hugs the left lane. I fear the other drivers who can not stay in their lane.

Edward Julian Daly IV, It happened to me once. The highway in front of my house for about 3 to 4 feet and then corrects itself.

Is There a Problem with the Cybertruck's FSD?

The issue is not isolated, with several reports on Reddit and other online forums from Cybertruck owners who have experienced this problem.

Some Tesla Cybertruck owners with Full Self-Driving (FSD) have reported issues with it crossing over double yellow lines, suggesting lane-keeping problems, particularly on highways and freeways.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the issue:

Lane-Keeping Problems: Several Cybertruck owners have noted that FSD struggles with maintaining lane position, leading to the vehicle drifting towards or crossing over double yellow lines.

Uneven Road Conditions: Some owners have reported that FSD seems to react poorly to uneven road conditions, like weeds growing into the side of the roadway, causing it to attempt lane changes over double yellow lines.

FSD Updates: Some owners have reported that the issue seems present even with the latest FSD updates, suggesting that it's a persistent problem.

Intervention Required: Many owners report having to intervene and take control of the vehicle when FSD is about to cross over a double yellow line, indicating that the system is unreliable in these situations.

A post on Reddit says,

One of the biggest issues was that heavy snow completely covered the lane markings, making it difficult for FSD to position the car correctly.

At times, I felt like the vehicle was drifting too close to the center of the road, and in some moments, I even had the uneasy feeling that it was slightly crossing over the double yellow line. Of course, I was paying close attention and ready to take control, but it reminded me that FSD still struggles when road conditions aren't ideal.

A recent post on the Cybertruck Owners Club says,

"I still have significant lane centering issues with my cybertruck on freeways and highways. It rides over the line at least a good two feet at some points. It doesn't matter if it's a yellow line or a dotted white center line; it still seems to be an issue. It's frustrating, and it makes FSD unusable."

"I've already tried recalibrating cameras, and multiple updates still haven't fixed the issue. Others have similar problems on these forums, but I haven't heard of a fix yet."

Conclusion:

Tesla FSD in the Cybertruck and other models is still a work in progress. I recently wrote a report about Tesla instructing its Autopilot trainers to disregard certain traffic signs while teaching and programming the electric automaker's advanced driver assistance technology.

While it does not address the FSD issue of Tesla models crossing a double yellow line into oncoming traffic, it sheds light on the new technology. Check out my report here for more information.

It's because his story is a work of fiction and he's never had his truck cross over the double yellow into oncoming traffic. But he's definitely loving writing anything negative about Tesla and Elon musk because if you haven't realized it that is the new person we must hate because he is a threat to the establishment and the elite who have been ripping off the American tax payer for the last few decades and with the work he is doing with dodge he basically kicked a hornets nest and they are going to do everything they can to try to stop him but my hopes are that the American public is on to the gaslighting and nonsense

I am a IT Infrastructure Systems Engineer. Computers are wonderful things until they fail to accomplish what they are designed to do. And they do fail. I wish they would outlaw FSD.

About six months ago I stopped using FSD and regular cruise control on our X. I don’t trust Tesla anymore. The FSD on our Ludicrous S 6-7 years ago was the best it ever was. Very sad situation. I cancelled my Cybertruck reservation and we passed on the Y for a replacement for our Volt.

If FSD was even remotely ready for the streets then Elon wouldn't have had the government workers looking into FSD, and all its failings, fired.

People keep buying these cyberjunk vehicles despite all the problems. Anyone paying for "self-driving" future tech, after all the delays, must be even bigger fools.

I have the same problem with my Y hugging too closely to the left line. Takes me about 2- 3 times to recalibrate camera to eventually fix issue. No problem with crossing double yellow line.....YET!
