According to a new report from Consumer Reports, the 2022 Subaru Forester Small SUV is one of its Best Cars of the Year and a 10 Top Pick of 2022. CR says Forester meets their very highest standards factoring in performance, road tests, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety.
The refreshed 2022 Forester is considered “best-of-the-best,” scoring highest in the Small SUV category again as the compact makes its ninth consecutive Top Picks appearance.

CR says, “The Forester received a light freshening for the 2022 model year, updating its looks while adding a more adventurous Wilderness trim. The secret to Forester’s success has been its efficient, spacious design; strong fuel economy; focus on safety; great road-test performance; and strong reliability history.”
The Subaru Forester compact SUV is also the best pick of 2022 because it offers shoppers high value. Forester has excellent fuel mileage, standard all-wheel-drive, highest safety crash scores, utility and cargo-carrying ability, and it’s affordable.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Forester?
For the 2022 model change Forester comes in six trim levels; The base Forester starts at $26,320, Premium ($29,320), Sport ($30,890), Limited ($33,000), new Wilderness ($33,945), and Touring ($36,420). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,125).
What is the Forester fuel mileage?
The 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV comes with standard all-wheel drive and gets an EPA estimated 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg. The Forester comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine.
CR goes on to say, “It is hard to overstate the importance of design. The Forester’s upright shape provides greater access, cabin space, and cargo room than its competitors. The tall roof and large windows provide fishbowl-like outward visibility, giving a wide view of the road and surroundings. The Forester also scored well in safety tests, accident avoidance maneuvers and earned the highest scores in crash assessments conducted by the NHTSA and IIHS.
