When you drive your new car off a dealer's lot, it drops in value. And some automakers' vehicles depreciate more than others. So which models retain their value the best? According to Kelley Blue Book's (KBB) 2023 Best Resale Value Awards, ten new models are the best, and the 2023 Crosstrek is Subaru's best model.
The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek scores the best in the Subcompact SUV segment and is a top ten best model winner. The Subaru Crosstrek also won the best resale value award last year. In addition, Subaru has two other winners, the 2023 Subaru Forester wins the Compact SUV segment, and the 2023 Subaru Outback takes home the best Midsize 2-Row SUV award.
Kelley Blue Book's 2023 Best Resale Value: Top 10 Cars
KBB announced the ten vehicles with the best resale value of any car you can buy this year. The 2023 Crosstrek is the one Subaru vehicle to make this list. All vehicles in Kelley Blue Book's Top 10 for Best Resale Value in 2023 are projected to retain around 60 percent or more of their MSRP after the initial five-year ownership period.
While the average new vehicle will be worth about 45 percent of its original sticker price after 60 months, these ten vehicles will return an average of about 65 percent to their owners' pockets. Here are the best of the best and their projected sticker price after 60 months.
Toyota Tundra (73.3), Toyota Tacoma (66.0), Tesla Model X (66.0), Ford Bronco (65.4), Chevrolet Corvette (65.3), Toyota 4Runner (64.4), Honda Civic (62.5), Ford Maverick (61.7), Subaru Crosstrek (61.0), and Jeep Wrangler (61.0).
KBB says, "Understanding a car's resale value can make the difference of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in the long run. To help new-car buyers shop smart, Kelley Blue Book announces the 2023 model-year brand, category, and top 10 winners of the 21st annual Best Resale Value Awards, recognizing vehicles for their projected retained value through the initial five-year ownership period."
What does it mean for new car shoppers?
KBB's Best Resale Value Awards recognize 2022 model-year vehicles for their projected retained value through the initial five-year ownership period. These latest KBB accolades for Subaru let consumers know they keep their value better than other models. This can make the most significant difference when you trade in your vehicle after 3-5 years. You'll get more for your trade-in than other automakers' vehicles.
If you plan on keeping your new car for 3-5 years, depreciation (loss of value) is typically your primary expense during ownership. It shows shoppers which new vehicle will be the best in resale value.
Subcompact SUV winner: Subaru Crosstrek
The Crosstrek is a perennial winner in resale value, and now it's a top ten best resale value winner. It's another reason the Crosstrek is Subaru of America's best-selling all-wheel-drive vehicle in the lineup. You can get the 2023 Crosstrek model guide here.
What does KBB say?
"The Subaru Crosstrek is a solid choice in subcompact SUVs. If you want something efficient and affordable but also something that stands out from the crowd, the Crosstrek has the quirks you want and the practicality you need. It has a generous list of standard safety tech features and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick. On top of being a sensible car for the daily commute, it's not afraid to get dirty. Thanks to standard all-wheel drive (AWD), 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and off-road features like X-Mode, the Crosstrek is one of the best off-roaders in its class."
What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek?
The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek now comes in six trim levels for U.S. customers. The base trim is priced from $24,870, Premium ($26,020), Special Edition ($27,970), Sport ($29,220), Limited ($30,720), and Crosstrek Hybrid ($38,070). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,225).
How does the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek compare with all other subcompact SUVs in retaining its value? The Crosstrek picks up the best subcompact SUV segment award from Kelley Blue Book, and it's now among the top ten vehicles you can buy this year.
